is the afiadl course for public affairs still out there?
i know some of the other ones have gone away

if it is still out there, do they still send tests to the unit, or does a member have to go to base for that now?

No.  A new course is in the works (and has been for a couple years) but is not yet out.  Until then, the AFIADL course requirement can be waived for your technician rating, since it's impossible to take it as it does not exist.

I finished it right before it was removed. While there was some good info in it, it was woefully out-of-date in a lot of ways.

Are there any more specialty AFIADL courses left?  I think the only USAF courses CAP can take anymore is SOS, ACSC and AWC.  Can anyone provide some more details?

Think we're moving away from using them for our distance learning.  While it probably made sense to use the AF's system back in the old days rather than setting up our own correspondence course system, it isn't necessary any longer given that CAP already has a pretty extensive online training and testing system.

What is the process for getting a waiver?

There was supposed to be a test on the PAO toolkit released in 2010. I don't think I've ever seen that anywhere and I don't see any announcement that it has been released.

I would think the squadron commander in coordination with the Wing PAO could waiver this.  IF it doesn't exit than it stands to reason you can't do it.

Also please note that Al Pabon, passed away suddenly this last summer so that not the place to send an email.

It's interesting that the new PAO volunteer team has been like "secret squirrels" in that I've yet to see anything from them to the PAO's.  Unclear as to what is going on.

That seems to be the case, and if I might add I'm glad to see us move away from AU A4/6.  Most of those tests were from a time when the web wasn't what it is now.  Now, it's so easy for teams of CAP members to collaborate at a distance to develop/update various courses (and keep the material much more up-to-date and 100% relevant to CAP) that I think CAP-developed courses delivered on our website makes the most sense.  That wasn't the case 5-10 (or more) years ago and ECI/AFIADL/AU made a lot of sense then.

It's similar to the old CAPP 204, which required organizing an "Instructor Training Course" which, as far as I can tell, never existed (the pamphlet made clear that it was a CAP course, saying you could order it on CAPF8).  The guidance there was to have it waived, and in the new CAPP 204, most of the requirements remain the same except the Instructor Training Course requirement vanished.

CAP members are still eligible for ANY AFSC  course that doesn't require restricted security clearance access. I just finished a course in public health ( PH Journeyman) ... very beneficial for anyone in that field.

Others include civil engineering, logistics, computer programing ( Common access terminals only)...

Strangely the full course for Nuclear Missile Maintainers is available... although the course on the Fire Control System is not.

Weather is also strangely a restricted course ( because it includes classified info relating to our Satellite capabilities)

Most take 6- 12 months to complete and are either completely book based or a hybrid course. ( Currently non are 100% online)

End of course exams are required to be conducted at a Base Ed Office. ( Mentoring by CAP officers is NOT allowed for the AFSC courses)

CAP members are also able to enroll in the Enlisted PME courses (though good luck explaining that when you go to the Base Education Office that " CAP LT Snuffy is enrolling in ALS" )
