"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Bravo zulu to all involved.

This is kind of a silly question given the location but...

Any CAP involvement?

None that I've heard about.

But, but we do 95% of the inland search and rescue!  ::)

Seems the other 5% get most of the press because most articles I read like this make no mention of CAP.

Or maybe that top number is inflated....

In CA, the County Sheriff has lead agency for all Searches in its area of responsibility. ELT missions and land based EPIRBs are almost always turned over to us until we find and actual person in distress or we need assistance in gaining access to a locked facility. In some areas of the state we get called on missing airplane searches because of our fixed wing air assets are cheaper that CHP. However, most counties have their own helicopter and CHP can usually be called on to provide a helicopter, at times rendering us not useful. Also most counties (especially the ones in the south part of the state) have some extremely well trained, well equipped, medically trained NASAR level ground teams which get a lot of practice on missing person searches.

No, we do 95% of the inland search and rescue tasked by the AFRCC

People who take issue with our marketing collateral always seem to leave off the end of the sentence.

They sure do.

No matter what, I thank God the little girl was found safe. At the end of the mission, that's all that matters.

Its seems strange, given the number of lost hiker SAR events that happen in California ( We are a big State with terrain that matches in some places, all the most hellish spots on earth, except possibly, the poles) that CAP does not get more involved. Two things come to mind; Who would fund it? ( Since every sheriff's department of any decent size has a huge pool of volunteer SAR members, willing to train to NASAR standards) and two, CAWG's (or at least certain members) god-given gift for pissing off county sheriff's.

We face the same trouble here in NY. We've got plenty of places for people to get lost, and yet, every agency has their own air assets, and they have to justify their cost. They use them as much as possible. Second, we've got negative history with at least 1 OEM which was more than happy to remind us of past transgressions. Bottom line: We don't get invited to alot of parties. (Hurrucane Irene is a perfect example)
