Monthly safety meeting

Hello everyone.

I am planning to join CAP and am getting my fingerprints later today.  I talked with the local squadron and got all of my questions answered, except I did not think to ask about the safety meeting on line.  The commander told me that I could do the monthly meeting on the ship, (I am an engineering officer on a great lakes cargo ship), And we do have an internet connection.  I forgot to ask what format the meeting is presented in. We are forbidden under penalty of slow and painful death to run any streaming video. Could someone clue me in to what format the safety briefing is presented in so I can make plans now and don't get any surprises when I go back after my vacation.

All of the ones I've done are in a slide show presenter.

Generally 10 or so low-impact slides and a quick 10 question test.

Hey, what happens if you use up those six courses online, does it re-enable them, or offer you more?

You may fulfill the briefing by phone too, with the ratification of the safety officer, or attend any other unit's meeting on that evening that they have a safety function.  Or, also- when your unit has a weekend activity, if that is started out with a briefing then get that to be logged as safety time, too. Makes for more opportunities.

There are currently 12 tests available on-line. Carefully timed, they should last for two years.

Take one test on October 2nd; it will be valid until November 30th. Take the next test December 2; repeat as necessary.

This will work out well as I can attend only about 4 or 5 meetings a year due to my work schedule.  With any luck I can stretch out the on line briefings for a while, or at least until I can come up with an alternate plan

Just saw the new post come in from SARDOC while I was typing this. Seems like I should be good to go.

I haven't had to take one in quite a while, but the last time I did it locked that module out for some period of time. I think it was something like 3 or 6 months.

It doesn't do that any longer.

You could just wait until you get back on dry land to worry about being current.  You probably aren't going to be participating in many CAP activities while sailing the Ocean (or in this case Lake) Blue.

Yeah, darn that whole being at sea for months a time.  Those people need to be compliant!

So? I have a few in my unit out of compliance... They're also not doing anything right now so I dont really care. Everyone has Intro to Safety done and that's the one NHQ seems to care about. If they were active it would be different but they're not.

I'm the safety officer for my unit with a bunch of active duty military personnel who are constantly out of town on various assignments including being at sea for weeks and months at a time.  I know who they are and we are a very military/employer friendly unit...they know in advance that they Can NOT participate in any CAP activities until their safety is current.  No body ever questions our reports.

As our partnership with the FAA continues to improve and grow, a new opportunity will allow CAP members to receive CAP safety education credit automatically, when participating in accredited FAA Wings program activities. A cooperative agreement between the FAA and CAP will allow safety education data sharing for members actively participating in the Wings Program. Implementation will come in two phases ....

No matter how often I attend meetings, I want to be compliant. Just in case there is something that happens online with your records that your active participation time is shut off while not current. If that does happen, it would delay promotions. Not to mention, I like to try to keep my squadron looking as good as possible as much as possible.

Agreed, but also have little to do with CAP, directly (not that the in-house ones are any better).
I can't tell you how many icing lectures I sat through in my early member days - excellent use of my time.

I would like CAP to inform and train me about things related to CAP.
