Looks like Utah Wing was used to locate a scene where a man was shot in the backcountry.  A man reported witnessing the shooting and they had a tough time locating the site.  http://www.nevadaappeal.com/article/20110821/NEWS/110829986/1070&ParentProfile=1058

At the time of the search it apparently wasn't clear whether it was an accident or murder, so you might say that this was a SAR case rather than assisting in the investigation of a crime.

This is the sort of borderline iffy (in so far as CAP regs go) mission that we seem to be seeing more of since we went to using the NOC to make the call on whether or not a mission was appropriate for CAP.

CD ops are also in support of law enforcement, but not actively carrying out LE functions; evidently NOC saw this Utah mission as fitting into our "observe and report" limitations.

It might be Nevada Wing; there is not a Carson County in Utah.  Maybe there are some Nevada people from CAP Talk, who were part of the search.

If so, they're about 400 miles out of bounds.

Carson City is about as far away from Utah as you can get and still be in Nevada.

Getting shot in the backcountry must be very painful....

Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

Getting shot anywhere is pretty painful.

I noticed that! Once in the side with a .25 and once with a stray pellet from a 12 Gauge dead center forehead. I lucked out both times and the total treatment was little more than a pair of tweezers and a bandaid ( That part hurt too) It gave me a good appreciation for my time on an ambulance with people who got really, really shot...... I am not sure you got my play on words on backcountry" but I will keep it G-rated!

Been shot AT a couple of times: once a 12 guage while deer hunting and once at 14,500 ft over the DMZ in Korea with a 57 MM.  Neither hit, fortunately, but both got my attention.

The peace loving people of NK attempted to present you with a gift of cultural exchange and you had the bad manners to not accept it? Each of those 57mm of diameter-goodness  represents one of the States of the United States.....But I guess we can confirm that Deer Hunters are often either as cranky or as poor marksman as Commies.....Glad you were were "returned to sender-unopened" as the Postal service and CIA used to say. Most of our deer in California are about the size of Chihuahua ( maybe they are cross-bred?) So rifles are the general firearm of choice, except for archers. Can you imagine how pesky war-wounds must have been when they were inflicted with Iron-tipped arrows?

Id say that mission was totally legit for CAP.  Any SAR is a potential crime scene.  Could have been an accident, you never know. Any airplane crash is a crime scene until determined differently.
