Goodyear Blimp crash in Germany

It was on the news a day or two ago. A fire started on board, he got on the ground long enough to get all the passengers off. Because of the drastic weight reduction, it went up quickly, and before the pilot could get it under control, the blimp was consumed by fire.

Neither this nor the more famous Zeppelin from 1937 "blew up". They didn't explode, they burned uncontrollably.

Starting in 2014 the Goodyear Blimps will be replaced by Goodyear Zeppelins. Goodyear has signed a contract with the Zeppelin company for new rigid-hull airships. The new Zeppelins will be more than 50 feet longer and almost 20 feet wider than the current blimps. The "payload" will increase from a pilot + 6 passengers (self-loading freight is a term used on another forum) to a crew of 2 + 13 passengers. However, don't expect interiors to look like those in JC's links.
