Is there any sort of privacy policy, or anything, that covers what our contact information provided to eServices can be used for? Like most CAP members, I have an e-mail on file in eServices, and have for the last 10 years or so. Historically, this has been used to send me announcements of important things for me to know (like my membership expiring, or an eServices password reset.) Recently, however, my wing has starting using it to send me announcements about less-important things.

I don't really have much grounds to complain, since I did provide my e-mail to NHQ with no restrictions (that I can find) on who can use it and for what, but I'm kind of wishing I had some sort of opt-in/out system where I can pick what CAP-related e-mails I want to receive.

Why would you not want to get emails from wing HQ??  :o Like playing in your own little sandbox?  >:D

Make up a yahoo/gmail account for free that is devoted to nothing but CAP if it bothers you that much....
In god we trust, all others we run through NCIC

Are the wing announcements CAP related? If so, what's the problem?

If not, contact YOUR wing IT staff to find out why you're getting non-CAP related emails. Forward them a copy as well so they can see what you're talking about.

Some wings have been relying on opt-in email lists with less than useful results (COWG had less than 15% of members opt in). Some of these are changing to opt-out lists and using the eServices info to build the list. As NCRblues asked, why would you not want to get your wing announcements?

Typically, the folks who opt-out become the same ones who complain they never hear about anything going on. Go figure.

Well... because they're not sending me anything I care about. Back in the days of yore, when my wing operated almost entirely from Yahoo! groups, they were split into sections (Professional Dev, Cadet Programs, etc.) so you could pick which announcements you cared to get and which ones you didn't. If I'm going to get CAP-related e-mails, I'd like the option to not receive the ones about events I have no interest in.

Obviously, it's not the end of the world, I can delete the e-mails, but it occurred to me when I started getting them that I'd handed over my e-mail to NHQ without really ever getting an understanding of what all I'd agreed to have it used for. Most websites that collect this information have a privacy policy that states what it'll be used for, I was kind of surprised to see that CAP doesn't.

Yeah, I know, mountains and molehills. Random thought when I got home and checked my e-mail.
