The Lonestar Emergency Services Academy is now open!
Dates are from June 19th to 26th.
LESA offers many great ES courses at a decent price, including CERT, Mission Chaplain, and other not-so-common courses.

I just posted this because I haven't seen it on here yet..maybe some alumni or TX Wing people have more info?

Anyone notice the ripping-off of the NESA patch?

Very little artwork is completely original. The design is a little busy, but it's alright.

All they did was change the top rocker, the globe, and add Texas.

If you go to the course info and click on the link for GSARSS Basic, you are sent to the info for the Advanced School. If you click on the Advanced School link, you are also sent to the Advanced School link. To paraphrase an old Wendy's commercial: Where's the Basic?

Considering that LESA is thought of and intended as a sort of NESA South, why not borrow artwork.

That said, those going to the LESA MAS will have a chance to see and use the virtual aircrew trainer. It's based on Microsoft FSX, but is more than just a video game. Combined with the CAP Radio Simulator, it allows and aircrew to fly an entire sortie, electronic and/or visual searches, without leaving the ground.

I would go there as staff this year, but I will be at the TXWG Encampment instead.

I was always under the impression that Alabama WESS was considered NESA south. It's run by Lt. Col. Long among other NESA staff.

No we are more of a test bed for NESA. I really don't think their needs to be a "NESA south". Yes every wing needs their own ES training program. But I do not believe any of those programs should try to take the place of NESA.

It would appear to be a glitch on the LESA page; however if you look at the bottom there is a link to take you to the GSARSS page; there it breaks down the basic and advanced courses.

Or for the lazy:  www.GSARSS.com

I may be biased (I am an alumni from both the ATS days at encampment as well as the inaguarl GSARSS program 2004); however I feel that GSARSS (basic or advanced) is one of the finest GTM style training schools I have been involved in.

It covers all of the material required for CAP 101 quals in GTM 3-1 and GTL and NASAR certification.  There are elements of and best practices from such programs as NESA, PJOC and HMRS as well as influences from military programs (PJ Indoc, USAF SERE, Army Airborne & SF selecion)
When I taught there, this combination not only produced someone with the right quals for CAP GT operations but taught teamwork, leadership, attention to detail and critical thinking/problem solving skills.  I am sure these things still go on today.
