Hello Guys!

After being out of CAP for about 5 years, some potential members have asked me about chartering a new squadron. I have all necesary CAP pubkications. We have a potential name but would like to know if there is an online list of squadron names by wing to check our name against the list.

Thanks,

Luis R. Ramos

That map is missing a whole lot of squadrons...

Try your wing's website. I know many wing websites have a list of squadrons within the wing.

The actual list is much more complete.

Guys-

Thank you very much for all your suggestions.

I did go to my Wing's website. They had no online squadron list. What I resorted to was looking at the online Group list, but there were some groups missing.

I wanted to have some fallback, like knowing about the National online list.

Take care,

Someone at Wing level (maybe lower for all I know), can download the CAPWATCH text files which include a table with a listing of every squadron in the country.

Additionally, there should be very little chance of accidentally using another name since the majority of CAP squadrons are named for the towns that they are in, which is what is recommended in the regulations.

CAPWATCH can be downloaded at each echelon but will only show personnel appropriate to that echelon.

There used a separate table that lists all the units in the nation. It wasn't accessible through CAP Reports, you needed to create your own, or use the raw table. I haven't looked at the recent downloads to see what's there.

Low-tech suggestion... I'd just Google the name you came up with - if it exists, it'll be mentioned on some site somewhere.

Now that I think of it, there might actually be duplicated squadron names out there, although not in the same wing.

Right off the top, looking at the latest directory, there are four units named 'Eagle Composite Squadron'. 'Springfield' shows up in three unit names. So all you really need to do is make sure your own wing doesn't have a unit with the name you're looking at.

There is indeed such a table with every unit in CAP.   If you want me to dump it from the database, PM me.
