Hello all, this is my first time here I've had a question that I've never been able to get fully answered.

After participating in an actual mission, is there an officially accepted way to document your participation in the mission?I understand that during a training mission you would need to get with your trainer to update SQTR but I mean if it is an actual mission with no training involved. Are there certain records kept that can be retained by an individual member as proof of their participation in the mission? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

In e-services, my ops quals,
there is a single entry page
you enter the date of your mission participation, and what specialty (specialties) you participated in, and then update those.

This is how you keep your currency.
Remember that some specialties give 'equivalent credit' for example if you fly as a MO you also get credit for MS currency.

That's not exactly true, IIRC.

CAPR 60-3, Para 2-4b(2):

"(2) Be evaluated on at least one mission (actual or training) every 3 years by a qualified evaluator as outlined in paragraph 2-2a in each specialty (or equivalent higher specialty) for which renewal is requested. A matrix of equivalent specialties is available on the NHQ CAP/DOS website."

It used to be that all you had to do was participate on missions to renew. Now you have to be evaluated (there's more to qualification renewal, this is just one paragraph that's relevant).

I would recommend maintaining a mission log (I use a GoogleDocs spreadsheet), using a CAPF 114, and/or having your unit commander or IC use participation letters (PLs) to document mission participation (filed in the CAPF 114 perhaps?).

When I was at a squadron we maintained a mission PL template that only took 2 minutes to fill out, print out, & file after we'd RTB.

Again, the single-entry page is not for tracking missions, nor is entering a mission number and date enough for actually meeting the standard for qualification renewal. There are other tools out there that meet the need to document mission participation.

*Modified, I meant CAPF 114, not 115, my apologies.*

Participating isn't enough to requalify you. You have to be observed by a SET and retask selected advanced tasks. Your ESO should be tracking your participation on CAPF 114.

I believe cince's question is more geared towards keeping a running log of all your missions in general, not necessarily for the purposes of SQTRs.  Cince, as far as I know there isn't a way to track that in eServices, but I do know that WMU has a decent function for it.  This function may not work if your wing didn't use WMU in the past though.  Take a look in WMU under Unit Commander and then CAPF-114.  It may show up for you, it may not.

That said, you should talk to your squadron ES officer about starting a CAPF-114 for you to keep in your membership file.  That form is the paper/hard copy of your ES records that is to be used if electronic records are not kept.

I should note that e-Services may have this function, but it may require higher permissions (group or wing) than anybody on this forum has in order to see it.  WMU has to be pinging that info from somewhere...

Cince, you can use something as simple as an Excel spreadsheet or if Aircrew you can pay for this Logbook for Scanners and Observers: http://www.vanguardmil.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=14899, or if a GT you can buy this: http://www.vanguardmil.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=14898

Personally, I use a spreadsheet in Google Docs!

I'm not aware of anything in e-services (and I'm a wing-level WSA). We've used the WMU in our wing in the past. There's always the trusty CAPF45. If anyone has any other thoughts  -   -   -  !

Thanks a lot to everyone who responded! I've been in for a while but like a lot of us I'm sure most of my CAP career has been mostly learning by doing or asking questions. I'll probably have more questions in the future and in turn I hope I can help out others too.

As an IC, I cut a PA with participants names, total sorties (2 ground, etc), credit for a non-distress / distress find, and (hopefully) save credit.

If there is a save, I generate the CAPF120 straight to the Wing CC.

Scan it in, send the .pdf to each unit and include it in the "Doggie Folder".

Makes it easier for the units to track everything.
