For those who don't now, you can request a NASA speaker here: http://www.nasa.gov/about/speakers/ I think it's mostly geared towards school visits but you could probably get someone for a CAP event.  Unfortunately, you're results are best if around a NASA center or facility.  Sometimes you can get lucky though.

Feel free to ping me if you are having trouble getting a speaker to your area, and I'll see if I can find someone already headed that way.

We had Charles Bolden come in Dec. 2001, since that was my first actual meeting I don't know what went into getting that to happen, and around 2004 I think, we had another Shuttle astronaut come and talk.  It was even more cool to know that Bolden got selected as the head of NASA.. and he'd been to our unit prior. :)

Getting an astronaut is much harder, I don't really know what goes into it.  And it's really awesome that you got a future NASA Administrator.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to pass it along to our AE folk.

Awesome info, thanks!  Sounds like a great PA opportunity, try to get the word out to the community, local news, etc.  I'll pass this along to the AE officer and talk to the commander and see if they'd be interested.

I work at JSC as an Aerospace Education Specialist and have had the opportunity to Skype into CAP meetings and classrooms. That might be an option for you. NASA's speaker's bureau will come free of charge only in a 50ish mile radius otherwise, you will have to pay for their travel. Skype is free. Just a thought.

Good call, I hadn't thought of that.
