I flew my first glider yesterday and spent the rest of the day as wing runner. I am very interested in going to Glider Academy.  I know it's usually in mid July. Does anyone know what the cost has been in previous years so I can start saving up?

I would be going to the one in Rome, Ga.

Thanks.  The applications have already been submitted.  Almost 1,700.  I'll start saving for next year.

We've had several go from our squadron over the years. Two went twice, advanced the second year, and were invited back as senior staff when the time comes, should they be interested. I've never heard a bad review about anything except the weather grounding them for the first week in New Mexico, but they flew the wings off those gliders the second week and made up for it and then some.

does JFE take apps exclusively from e-services?
seems like they used to be completely separate from the GFA that is held in the same place...

This year they went eServices. I've got a cadet that is interested.

Johnson Flight Academy is run by Illinois Wing, has a Power, Glider and Balloon Section.  This year you have to apply through E-Services.  The cost for Glider is $875.00 and you must be a C/SrA at the time of the application.  You receive the same training and at Nationally run flight school, its just that the instructors and staff are mostly from Illinois and you don't get a national cadet special activities ribbon from it.  Just the flight hours.

I went to powered once as a cadet and served three years on senior staff at this activity, it is a blast.  Apply quickly since power and glider slots fill up fast.

Talked to Rick Oeth Saturday. JFA may already be filled up. You can still check but I believe that's what he said.
