i already have a land nav course set up, and plan to teach basic litter carry. and have several classes and slide shows from the NESA curriculum as well. I only plan t teach the basic (GT3/UDF) material in order to spark an interest in ES in my unit to get more cadets going to SAREX's/ NESA/ MASAR etc...

does any one have any ideas for other hands on activities?

EDIT: ELT search both basic and practical also planned :)

Are your an SET for these?  Who is your ES Officer?  I would start there.

You can do a class on DFing using the body shadow technique if you have a DF and ELT trainer.  You can get creative with where you place it, such as a trash can or an automobile.  This not only demonstrates the basic idea of DFing, but is practical traing for locating an ELT in a hanger or a plane on the ramp.

Here's a fun one that, if your cadets area CAP Talk subscribers, will be given away here.

If your unit meets in town, stash your ELT at a nearby pizza place (we had a Pizza Hut probably 3/4 of a mile walking distance from the unit).   The last time I did this, someone called me during opening formation, and I made a big show of looking at my phone, answering it, and then its like "an ELT? Near here?  As a matter of fact, we _do_ have a DF available..."

Then you wind up DF'd to the pizza place, where its time for a unit pizza party.

It beats finding the ELT in an ammo can in the field.

:O

that is arguably the funnest and most original thing I've ever heard to bad we meet on an AF base and the nearest pizza place is miles away...

maybe it would work for black hawk rides.... "oh look you found the ELT in the hangar I guess we get rides" :)

I've considered hiding it at the FBO on the field we meet at... I've gotta decide where I'm gonna hide the one for our SAREX in March...

:) ... I thought about a similar thing since there's a Pizza Hut/Subway on base thats within marching distance .. the only thing that's really stopped it has been their service and quality is the absolute worse, and I think we could milk the cow and create the cheese ourselves faster.

The ammo box containment box has actually, OTOH, been a hit. Go figure.

Would you mind posting the link or telling me where you got the slideshows off of so that I might be able to use them in one of the classes I teach?
Thanks
