I have recently started RC Planes again, a hobby which I started several years ago but took a break from it for personal reasons. Anyways I have a surplus of RC items that I want to sell and try to fund buying a plane for my squadron before I leave for BMT in about 2 months.

I know of at least 2 squadrons that have an Avistar or some other plane that they tried starting a program with but it is now sitting in their closet collecting dust because no one knows how to repair it.

So what Im basically asking is if anyone has ever ran a successful program teaching cadets how to fly RC planes and how the program was run?

My advice is to find a local AMA group and partner with them to develop a training program, etc. for your cadets.  They already have a program in place for this, so why reinvent the wheel?

Im not suggesting we re invent the wheel, Im just saying we release a pamplet that includes lessons on RC Airplane's somewhat like the regular AE program and some other details.

I've heard that there's one or two units in MA wing that are running a successful aircraft radio control program.  When I took a trek down from my border safe house --  I observed at the Westfield/Barnes ANG Airshow in August it was the local unit that had a display of their RC aircraft.  You might want to contact them (104th Composite Squadron, Barnes ANGB, Westfield, MA).

All,

The MARC program found on eservices under the AE downloads is a great tool to use prior to approaching the local AMA flight club. Most of the clubs are unaware of the program.

Here is link for the AMA site hosed program for CAP :  http://www.modelaircraft.org/education/CAP_MARC.aspx

My unit is currently working with the head of the AMA-CAP to develop a best known method  for approaching and utilizing this AE aspect.

We've been doing it for a while now.  We have two planes built and flown.  Phase two, which started a week or two ago, is to add the headtracking cameras to the RCs so they can be flown from video goggle.
