Hey there again. I'm C/A1C currently, next year I want to take the National glider activity. But then I hope to be Staff Sergeant or at least Senior Airman. Do I have a good chance? Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

If you're a C/A1C right now, why would you not be able to promote past C/SrA or C/SSgt? Even at 4 months per achievement/award you'd be well on your way to being a C/SNCO.

While there are lower NCO's and airmen at the national flight academies (at my powered NFA there was a senior airman). Typically most of the cadets who attend are officers or upper NCO's (Chief's and Senior Master Sergeants for example). Make sure you have a basic encampment under your belt, since that is one of the major requirements, and focus on working up through the ranks!

Don't go too fast or make rank your priority though, you need to learn each level before you move on otherwise there is no point.

NCSA selections are based on a point system, points are awarded based on age, milestone awards, time in service and how many NCSAs you have been to (the fewer the better). Link explaining the full process.

Ouch, yes, that catches a lot of cadets off guard.  I still don't know why they changed that.

"Before the activity...", or even "Before the application deadline..." is reasonable, but an arbitrary calendar deadline doesn't make sense to me in the current state of CAP and how busy kids are in general.

They're not exactly hurting for applicants for NCSAs.  They have twice as many applicants as slots.  Putting a requirement that someone complete encampment before applying is fine.  It saves them from slotting someone who says that they'll go, but ends up not graduating, etc and having to fill a slot last minute.

It also helps, perhaps, by providing an incentive to stay in after encampment.

Jan 15th *IS* the application deadline...
