Ok I'm from the GA wing but I'm applying to Colarados encampment 1 because I won't be able to make it at georgias and 2 because it is at the freaking air force academy! Ok can any one tell me what to expect and not what to do. This is my first encampment and I don't know what all to do. And is there a way to sneak food or candy into the school?

arajca

As for sneaking in food, no. But feel free to try - the staff will love you for it. >:D

No, don't bother. We inspect everything (and confiscate contraband).

Just follow instructions and you'll be fine. The first day or two can be hard, but it gets easier and more fun pretty quickly.

I hope you've already sent in your application, because we're full now.

I hope you realize that publicly asking how to break the rules will now place you under increased scrutiny if you accepted for attendance. Or even worse, jeopardize even getting accepted.

There are any number of nightmares listed in your original post.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Cadet Oath, followed by the Honor Code which was adopted from the very school you are hoping to visit.  Not only could sneaking snacks in jeopardize your participation it could very well jeopardize the entire encampment being invited back.  Our host facility is very sensitive to food in the facilities because of infestation.  Finding such items could result in our not being allowed back.

Second, you should really make an effort to attend your first encampment at least in your region, with special emphasis on your wing.  It is not uncommon for first time cadets to have a catastrophic memory lapse (i.e- Forgetting blues) that could jeopardize your full participation.  And basic encampments are not often equipped to handle such episodes.

I am literally as I type gearing up for the second weekend of an encampment at a fairly significant role with the cadet portion.  The best advice I can offer is

  • walk in the door with your uniform squared away
  • customs and courtesies on full blast
  • absolutely nothing that isn't on the packing list and everything that is

You should be prepared to listen, learn, and have fun.  Eliminate the desire to bring home to encampment (re:sneaking snacks).

Most importantly RESPECT the Staff, Facility, Hosts, bus driver, and everyone else you meet.

I prefer to think of it in terms of something CAP has officially codified in a regulation (as opposed to "adopted" from someone else), the core values.  Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence and Respect.

  • Integrity: basic honesty.  You're seriously asking us for advice on how to break the rules?
  • Volunteer Service:  well, you're volunteering to go, you should be volunteering to obey the rules of the activity.
  • Excellence:  see integrity
  • Respect:  That question speaks volumes about your respect for a wing activity on the other side of the country.
That one question just painted a great big target on your back.  If you were coming to my wing/region encampment, I'd be taking a special interest in any cadet from GAWG with a possible name of Sloane.  If my encampment was in a position of having to limit the number of attendees, I'd have to think long and hard about letting you in now, and taking away a slot for someone in my own wing.

The Encampment Commandant saw this thread and pointed out that, if we had a cadet from GAWG named Sloane attending, we would, in fact, now be prepared for that cadet to attempt to circumvent the regulations.

Ba-zing!  I'm sure your wing commander out there would have your back.  In fact, I know he will.  Give him my regards the next time you see him.

LMAO... that's a GREAT scene to show to all cadets entering encampment :P

When this thread was made the cadet aka me was kind of imature and not thanking. I was over joyful about joining CAP. I am now less imature and mote mature. I am also a staff sergent so I have to have leadership qualities. I do regret posting the tread so yea. I still am going to Colorado's Encampent. I will not bring any contraband to the encampment because 1 that is disregarding the honor code in which we should all live by. 2 I would be jerpodizing the return of 1 me and the cap to the encampemtn faculties.

Also. I would attend my encampent but I will be on a cruise during that time and Colorado's only fit my schedulie. So I have learned my leason and look forward to going to the encampent with the rite mind set.

ltcolashby

As entertaining as this all has been and I would love to give you Cadet Sloane the list of candy I like so maybe you wouldn't get kicked out at in-processing, but you will not be attending the Colorado Wing Encampment this year as we are full.  So good luck where ever you end up an hopefully you will behave appropriately.  I am sure the cadet attending from GA will appreciate the extra attention he will get since you are setting a very bad example of GA cadets.
A few more tips:
1. Use the spell check feature on your posts.  Your last post was not in English.
2. You are not coming to the Colorado Wing Encampment so please stop saying that you are.  Telling a lie is not in accordance with the Core Value of Integrity.  There is a very clear list of attendees on our website and you are not on it, nor is anyone from GA-090.

Why do you say that? If you get your app in on time there's usually no problem.

Ours filed up very quickly...by early April (possibly late March) for a June event, IIRC.

I say that because casual following of some threads reveals comments about dates changed, events cancelled and right here in this thread, two filled up.
