wow, for me thats a little de ja vu, almost two months ago a plane landed on the NJ turnpike, ours happened during morning traffic and ironically was a traffic reporting plane. no CAP pilots though

Glad to see he is OK and that it had a happy ending.  John is a solid member and an experienced pilot.  Bosshawk...I know who will be buying the first round this summer.

I will be sure to remind John of that.  He is, indeed, a good pilot and a cool head: retired Navy Chief, I believe.

Then you don't watch the local news on any of the LA stations and you don't read the newspaper.  Because it did get covered.

The Highway Patrol also let him taxi the airplane up the off ramp and all the way to the airport.  John is my Group Commander and an excellent pilot.

Less hassle for them, that way 

I had to land on a dirt road on a Colorado mesa just shy of a ranch house one Summer .. if it wasn't for the cattle guard, we'd have taxi'ed right up to the house that we spotted on the "downwind" leg.

Granted, it wasn't as busy as the freeway ..




It wasn't nearly as wide either. 

The good news was, after a visit from an A&P from 70 miles away.. we were outta there. (and the AD was waiting for me in the mail pile when I got home a week and a half later) ... if only..

I wasn't aware the CHP handled Aircraft Accidents. They have always handed them off to the FAA and NTSB.
Must be something new...

There is no NTSB report for the incident so it must not have been an "accident" requiring an NTSB investigation.  .
If an airplane lands on a California freeway, the CHP would  be the folks that would handle the incident.   They simply wouldn't wait for the FAA or NTSB to come out and endanger the aircraft or it's ocupants nor those that were on the freeway.
