Has anyone used DFLCS Gear in the field?

I just picked up a set of DFLCS, made by Eagle Industries, at a local surplus store.

My first reaction was WOW.  The Molle system and the proliferation of accessory pouches makes this one very adaptable for GT work.  They made Canteen pouches for this gear (camelbacks fit nicely also) and they are designed to double as carry all pouches since the water bottle is COMPLETELY enclosed and the cover can be cinched closed.

I am hoping that as this gear is disposed of (mine is OD and no longer goes with the AF ABU color scheme) we can start seeing it more in the field.

The fact that it is FULLY adjustable is a plus and means a squadron, group, wing (?) could possibly obtain these sets, as they are being redlined by big momma Air Force, and just ISSUE the to folks who need / want them.

I have been issued it and pretty much threw out the harness.  The MOLLE pouches are MOLLE pouches and are just like all the others out there.  The harness/vest part, in my opinion, is a no-go.

Of course, in CAP you aren't wearing Individual Body Armor (IBA).

I started a thread about DFLCS here on CAP Talk a while back... Here it is.

I actually think it's a pretty significant pain in the rear to wear that stuff.  Stateside, I just wear a tactical vest like the one in Kirt's link.  Yes, the harness does breathe a lot better than a tactical vest, but you can carry more and it's on a more stable platform.

Combat, I just wear all the pouches mounted straight to my IBA.  Less stuff to throw off after a 14 hour shift.

I think it must be a question of what you are used to.

I was in the Israeli army after my Cadet years and it was a tough transition to the IDF LBE, but once I got mine set up and knew the tricks, I found it to be comfortable. Even over body armour. The big difference is that DFLCS can be easily reconfigured, unlike Israeli gear which must be re-sewn (there is even an MOS to do that).

I do agree having used an interceptor vest it is a good (though not perfect) system for protection and armour.

The stuff made by Eagle was crap having worn that version and the one manufactured by Garrett I would have to say given the choice between the two I'll take the Garrett any day.  The only two items that would top that is the Spec-Ops over armour vest and the Army's Fighting Load Carrying (FLC) vest.  The pouches made by Eagle wasn't worth beans as the frag pouches kept coming loose as well as all the straps on the harness.

Regardless of who makes the DF-LCS, the harness (H-strap system) is simply not practical and does not make good use of space.  Garrett Container Systems has greatly improved the quality of the DF-LCS system and now offers 5 sizes.  But I still dislike the overall concept.  EVERYONE I know hates wearing the system on flight duty CONUS and while deployed EVERYONE simply takes the issued MOLLE pouches and attaches them directly to their body armor, thus making the H-harness worthless.

Yeah I have seen that too.  But my back can't take all that added weight on the vest itself.  I have only carried it to the sandbox just in case you get that one CC that dictates "You must..."  I know here we have plenty of people wearing it and I have yet to hear a complaint about it as well as anything good.  For me I prefer the Spec Ops vest I bought a couple of years ago.

I use the Army issue FLC for the MOLLE system. The pouches are the tightest fitting to the vest allowing for less jingle jangle and shifting on the body while allowing for the most placement versatility in vests around today. The old "WEB" gear that is widely seen in most surplus stores is junk, it shifts rubs the hips and is all around uncomfortable and impractical.

The FLC was my back up gear in  my car just in case I needed to pull a long gun.  Or that pucker factor of a recall.

Squadron recall for one thing or another.
