So just got off if Nationals website and was looking at the new Leadership for 21st century books. It said that they were going to have the test online soon. Is that the same test you take at the squadrons. And how are they going to make sure people are nit going to cheat and have a open book?

Are are they going to see if you mastered thr material throught the review boards. Some squadrons do review boards and some also don't. So lease helP I'm kind of confussed on the new protocal for that and it's going to look.

Online cadet testing has been slated by NHQ for 2Q10, however there hasn't been much word on it lately.

I just returned from a TLC course where the instructor has been beta-testing the online courses.  According to her, both online testing for Leadership and Aerospace will be rolled out on 1 APR, coinciding with the release of the new leadership curriculum.  It is slated to be "open book" with a higher pass level (80%), and having seen the prototype, each time you log in you must affirm the core values and that you will not seek assistance from sources other than classroom notes and the textbook.

There are a number of questions for each test in a "question bank" so that theoretically, cadets taking the same test should not have the exact same set of questions -- it looks and feels an awful lot like the Officer Basic Course.  It is timed (30 minutes provided).

Other than that, not a lot to prevent "phoning a friend", other than you might look pretty stupid when you go to take your Wright Brothers or Mitchell test (which are still done "old school" by paper test at the squadron).

As we have discussed to death here, you don't need to "cheat" when the answers are indexed and the system allows it to be open book.

Yet have any other Squadron Commanders here received any mailings on this subject from NHQ?  Has any member received instruction on how to implement the new process from any higher headquarters?  Is they expect this to start 1 April, I think we would have gotten some flyers or letters or an email!

Cms.sloane

True. They only reason I headrsmd about it was from a freind and nhq website

I was pretty baffled given the deafening silence from NHQ.  Just passing on the intel since there is no official word yet! ;D

Keep in mind, per CAPR 52-16, review boards are NOT allowed to test you on the material covered by the written tests. Passing the test is sufficient demonstration of your knowledge of the material.

OK.....the "scoop".  Got off the phone with a NHQ employee.  The date of release has been pushed back, Commanders will receive a new package late March early April to become familiar with the new program.  We then have to have our current Cadets choose what they want to do, "paper testing" with current books or "on line" with the new books.

Cadet entering CAP after a date yet to be established will automatically be in the on line group with new books.

No fear, a nice presentation and package will soon be coming.

I'll believe it when I see it.  In the 20 years I've been in, I don't remember anything starting on the date they said it would.

Just got this message from Curt.

Dear Directors of Cadet Programs,

Publication of the new "Learn to Lead" textbook and online achievement testing system is being pushed back to 1 July 2010.

Although there is tremendous enthusiasm for those two new initiatives, we have to slightly delay their release to ensure we get them right. A small army of volunteers is field testing the online achievement test system now, and we're copy-editing the "Learn to Lead" textbooks and supporting materials.

In the meantime, you can find detailed information about those two initiatives on the web at capmembers.com/learntolead and capmembers.com/oats.

Please forward this information to your unit commanders and stay tuned to the Cadet Blog for more news. Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,
- curt
