In all honesty, I would be more in favor of the elimination of the National Board than the NEC....Board of Governors as it currently exists.
National Executive Committee renamed to be the National Board
Current National Board members (corporate officers) not on the NEC become part of their respective NEC representatives advisory board/committee.

Agree. With the technology these days the NB is obsolete. I would add that I would like to see Region Commander's boarded for selection and not a product of politics.

^Actually, with the technology these days, it doesn't matter how many board members we have.
Each wing commander should be responsible to the dues paying members in their respective wings; as well as to the corporation.  They are, and should be, "corporate officers" with fiduciary duties.  As such, they should have a voice in the policy making decisions.  Gee, even in the Air Force, policy is vetted through a Col's board, 2 star board, 3 board and, so on till it makes its way to the SECAF.   Most large non profits; at their national meetings, have delegates from the respective jurisdictions gather to vote on national policy issues.  We do nothing unique nor different other than in the way we select our "leaders".
I think the important factor is, if we don't elect them, we should insure they are protected fully to voice their opinions without fear.  Tenure should be firm and undeniable except for certain well defined infractions; and only with the consent of the BoG.

Man, we have some dreamers on here. ;D I gave up dreaming about such things, because all of this (although wonderful suggestions) requires hard work from NHQ and others, and hard work isn't on their radar unfortunately. Captalk members should be the governing body! why not? cant be any worse than what we have now huh?
In god we trust, all others we run through NCIC

As for electing the National Commander, how does this differ from the Congress selecting the Speaker of the House?

The Speaker of the House does not appoint (or dismiss) the same Members of Congress that have the responsibility for selecting him or her.

The analogy is not perfect, we are not the House of Representatives.  That is why I would maintain the ability of the National Commander to dismiss members of the board and introduce a Vote of No Confidence which would be in place to "check" that extraordinary power.

This would have teeth, mind you; a vote of No Confidence would spell the de facto suspension of the National Commander or relegate that serving National Commander inert for that session.  The National Vice Commander would then assume the duties of the Commander until the matter was resolved.

I would think that with such a provision in place, National Commanders would think twice about dismissing a Wing Commander willy-nilly and members of the National Board would shift their attentions from trying to "fall" a National Commander and adhere to the meaningful tasks at hand.

I know some of you are still "smarting" from the events of 2007; however, not all things about the National Board and National Commander are "evil."  I should think that those events, and their resolution, should have created a culture of vigilance that would prevent that from happening again.

You would think it would create that constant vigilance, but unfortunately people see the figure head go down and smile and move on. Some forget that their are always people behind those figure heads, those that blindly supported the figure head, or even pulled the strings, and those that out right liked what when on. These people (unfortunately) are still around. With a confusing governance, split personality's, branding wars, infighting, politics run rampent and the good ol boy system it is so hard for the average good hearted and thoughtful member to bring anything to the table. That's what we need at the moment, all politics and policies are local. Why can we think along those lines?
