Why does Illinois conduct the training at a Naval installation instead of the Air Force Base??  It is a good facility and not too "far" from St. Louis.

I competed at Region NCC there. Nice facility.

We also have a large encampment at an Army training facility in mid-state, IL.  Redfox24 runs that.

We would love to have an encampment at Scott, and the players in that area continue to work those requests, however to my understanding the facilities for an ad-hoc activity like this are not available to CAP because the OPS tempo at Scott is so high.

Great Lakes is the location of the State Director's office, a CAP squadron, and a Group HQ.  It is also the nearest military
facility to the major population center of the state (Chicago metro).

They have amazing facilities offered to us at no charge for their use and military cost for meals, and the RTC rolls out the red carpet for us
every year.

Without putting too fine a point on it, St. Louis is in Missouri, and this is an Illinois activity.  There have been ongoing high-level discussions that a Fall encampment at Scott, especially held jointly with Missouri, would be a great idea.

Also, because Scott is a permanent party base, there is no real area disigned for billeting an encampment type activity that would also provide dining and shower facilities.

That and as a training base Great Lakes is always improving, and offering more activities to us.
