Not that I advocate selling things in that manner, however just a point, 8 yrs in the military, I BOUGHT every uniform item I ever had, including boots.

Not that this little tidbit is germane to the original issue, but enlisted folks in the military  do receive an annual clothing allowance that pays a significant portion of uniform expenses.

What is happening with them now?  I always thought the were given away after flown, particularly because I have one hanging on my wall that was flown in an F-16C during Opr Iraqi Freedom.

Enlisted - I got my initial uniform issue free then a monthly allowance to maintain/replace them.  Commissioned, I think I got a $300 initial allowance - it is now up to $400 and might include an additional $200 later.

So if I fly on a military aircraft, and then sell my boots claiming they actually flew on a military aircraft, that would be illegal?
Sure that is legal...because you wore those boots as part of your military duties.  If on the other hand you wore a different par of boots every flight and sold them it may cross the the line.  If you flew an extra pair of boot for the sole purpose of selling them...then you have definatly crossed the line.

If they were military issue aren't you supposed to return them?
NOPE....

But you would have to buy a new set of boots after each flight

If you are enlisted, you get an initial issue of uniforms at basic. After that, you have to buy them at clothing sales. EMs get a uniform allowance every year but most don't specifically set it asside for uniforms. Even if you are just going to a ROTC summer camp and receive an issue of uniforms and boots, boots and underwear are never returned. They are expendable items.
