Enrolling in professional development classes....maybe

I am contemplating enrolling in ACSC. I really do not need it or have to have it. It would be purely optional for both my personal resume and CAP professional development. I am trying to figure out if the work is worth the return. I could use the credit towards an advanced degree. I would have to travel 3 1/2 hours just to take the tests...is it worth it. I am not currently enrolled in any courses at college, I am no longer working (for the time) but would still have to travel for each test.

I have allready taken SOS in place of RSC.

I am sure the information would be great and I would learn alot.

Question is; Have you done them and have they been helpful? Was it strictly for CAP, RM, or Other?

I did SOS as a substitute for RSC.  I thought about doing ACSC to get Level V, but I'd really rather wait until I can attend NSC, since I know it will be a more worthwhile experience.

If you have the time and desire to take the AU correspondence courses, you should.  It's a nice benefit to being a CAP member.

If you don't need ACSC, wait until they open up the Master's program ACSC for non-AF.  That way you can walk away from the experience with a Master's.  I am waiting for that option, otherwise I would have taken it already to complete Level V.  I'll just try and go the NSC next year instead to complete Level V.

Is this something that is being considered, is actually in the works, or are you just hoping it will happen?

They are planning to open it up to sister services, and in this case we count.  I have emailed them several times to follow up and they say to stay tuned to their website for updates.

Well, I don't need another Masters Degree, but would consider it in this case for the novelty factor alone.  Guess I might think about actually going to RSC or doing SOS so I'd be eligible for it.

I am going to enroll in SOS as soon as my promotion to captain is processed.  If I can get some prior time recognized, I will be up for major in a year, if I can get everything done, and at that point I will do ACSC (hopefully I will be eligible for the master's program).

I work on an active base, so testing isn't a problem.  I've been working here for about six months part-time, just transitioned to full time.  Both of these courses will be resume enhancers for me, and were a partial reason I got back into CAP at this particular time.

One benefit of working here would be the opportunity to participate in the ACSC by seminar on base.

I finished ACSC a year before they announced the masters program.  I could have kicked myself.

AWC was a kick in the pants for me.  I never worked so hard (even at College, or my day job).

However, when the dust cleared, I am glad I did it.  It took forever, but in the end I think I am a better leader because of it. 

PLUS...... I added it to my military career, way before my year group.  So I thank CAP and the USAF for these type of courses!!!
