Anyone recommend a specific type of camera for the work we do?

For example, is there a digital camera with a built in GPS that marks the location of each photo?

That would be nice.

Any recomendations?

I've seen a bunch of people with Nikon D300's (or D200's) with a Nikon GP-1 GPS attachment.  I haven't used the GP-1 before, but it seems to be a pretty nifty setup.  The camera itself is great.

Texas Wing purchased 12 camera "kits" with the following equipment:

Nikon D200 camera body
Sigma 28 - 200 lens w/ hood & lens cap
Short, 9-pin to camera cord
Etrex GPS
Long, 9-pin to GPS cord
Long, Camera to USB cord
Camera battery charger and power cord
Camera Batteries (x2)
2GB Flash Cards (x2) and black Sandisk pouch
Polarizing Filter & Case
Camera body and rear lens cap covers
Camera bag to contain all the above

All of these went to the Hurricane Ike response and were used to take 40,000+ damage assessment photos for the state.

FLWG is using the D200 combo.  I do not reccomend using a camera with the built in GPS, the onboard GPS antenna isnt that great.  You can also use a standalone GPS unit and a post processing software app to geo-code the images.  If you intirested PM me ill give you more info.

Does anyone know if a Nikon D70 can connect to an external GPS?

The Nikon D70 body sales sites list "Lack of GPS support" as a con for the camera.

On a Nikon discussion forum, one user posts...

QuoteNikon uses the round 10-pin connector for GPS data, and that connector is only available on the higher-end models such as the D2 family, D3, D200 and D300.
