Back in the day when I was a cadet, I was at my first encampment.  I saw a CAP Lt. Col. walk by in his 1505's with those sliver Oak Leafs on his collar and the scrambled eggs on his bus drive hat.  I thought to myself someday I'm going to have that.  Well I never see the 1505's again, but I now have the Scrambled eggs and I hope to have the Lt. Col. rank some day.

So if you are going to dream, you might as well dream big.

My goals in CAP mainly consist of achieving the Spaatz award, getting my solo wings, and obtaining my private pilot certificate before heading off to college.

The sooner I achieve these goals, the better; I'm gonna need every piece of achievement I can get in order to get into the schools I'm looking at.

^^ Good Luck on the Spaatz

When I was a Cadet, my goals were:

1. Wear my Dad's Double Diamonds (circa 1972) --- Done
2. Beat him by getting 3 --- Did not happen, but I tried (long, but interesting story)
3. Get solo wings --- Done
4. Serve to the best of my ability --- Done.

Now as a Senior:

1. Serve to the best of my ability
2. Finish Level 3 befor TIG for Capt is up.
3. Use my PPL and tech skills to complete #1
4. Not get 2b'd  >:D

Go to NSC / Complete LVL 5 <-Same thing
Wait 3 more years for Lt Col.

My original goals - finish Level II and maybe make captain. Well, I'm a major now; done Level IV and hopefully, along with my good friend Jimmydeanno, make it down to Maxwell this fall and finish up Level V with completion of NSC. Still got a while for Lt Col but it's the Gill Robb Wilson award that I'm striving for, not the silver leaves.

If all goes well, I definitely hope to see you there.  I'm trying to get my wife to go this year too.  She's going to Pacific Region Staff College next month to knock out level IV.  Should be interesting.

I want to complete Level V, and someday I'd like to be a Lt Col, but it doesn't have to be soon.

I would also like to be an encampment commander, but that will have to wait until the kids are a little older.

Oh, and I'd also like to be a cadet orientation pilot, but I'm a long way from getting the PIC hours, and my lack of money isn't getting me any closer.

That's about it, really.  I'm lucky to have already done a lot of great stuff in CAP, so even if I left the organization tomorrow, I'd be content.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but I have found that in the course of embracing and practicing the Core Values a lot of things came their way that I did not set out to do or to become.  So I will continue to practice integrity, strive for excellence, offer my services when a need arises or I see a need that I know that I can meet, and treat those I come in contact with respect.  This rule of thumb has provided the opportunity to:

1) serve at every level of CAP -- from squadron to National (though I many not hold a National office title...I have been involved on committees, wrote material, etc.)

2) teach and mentor others - served on faculty/staff at encampments, cadet training, SLS/CLC/UCC/RSC/NSC.

3) receive excellent training in emergency services - ACUT, Mission Chaplain rating, CISM training

4) complete the Senior Member Professional Development Program - GRW #2095; received the Yeager award for Senior Member Aerospace Education.

5)  meet and hang out with some of the greatest volunteers you will ever want to meet and work with.

6)  to serve on the staff of some outstanding commanders - squadron, group, wing (including encampments), region.  At each level there was a learning curve.

If I were a cadet, I would set my primary goal as achieving the Mitchell Award.

That was my #1 goal as a cadet and I achieved it.

My #2 goal as a cadet was to become Ground Team Member qualified and I achieved it.  Within this goal, there were several sub goals required such as Standard First Aid/CPR, FCC "learners permit", ROP card (now called ROA), ES questionaire correctable to 100%, GTM classroom training and two practice misisons.

My #3 goal was to do as much as possible.  Orientation flights, air shows, missions, training, tours, road trips, bivouacs, wear my uniform, do cool stuff, dream, achieve and make some life long friends.  DONE!

My current goals, which are rather new after taking a hiatus include maintaining my qualifications as a GBD.  Re-qualifying as an observer.  Being active enough to make a difference with the cadets.

Biggest goal is to be encampment commander in the 2 years, preferably winter encampment.

Can I be your Commandant of Cadets?  ;D
