I've got to say that I'm very surprised at the overwhelming support for weekly meeting nights for senior squadrons.  I have been part of a senior squadron and a composite squadron that met twice a month and while I believe that is an ok way to go, I just can't imagine going to weekly meetings for ANY organization.

Sure, I did it for Boy Scouts when I was a kid (I can't remember how often the CAP squadron I was in as a cadet met, but I it was probably weekly), but I know tht with my job there is no way I could be a part of a squadron with that schedule and not be seen as a slacker who misses a bunch of meetings.  Yes, I know almost all CAP cadets meet weekly and there are seniors who make that possible (and I admire them greatly for that dedication), but I couldn't (and haven't) done it.

As I mentioned, my CG Aux unit meets monthly for a short period of time and I have no problem seeing how the same thing could be effective for CAP (with more time dedicated to that single meeting).

According to the CAPWATCH database, there are at least some senior squadrons out there that meet monthly, but due to a lot of missing data in that field, I can't really estimate how many units follow each schedule with any accuracy, but it seems as twice-a-month may be the most typical.

Our Squadron meets Tuesday nights although the Cadets meet at a separate location as managers of the County Govt building where we meet dont want the Cadets to meet there. I have a hard time understanding why senior members would object to Cadets in their midst. I attended two Squadrons where both Cadets and seniors met at the same place. We enjoyed an atmosphere where the seniors were influenced to set a good example for Cadets to see. We were better organized. Problems among the Cadets were mitigated by the larger presence of leadership. Where the seniors meet separately now without the Cadets half of the seniors dont bother to wear a uniform.

I think some Seniors want to getaway from kids. They have/had them at home why put up with them here, kind of attitude. I think it depends on the age of the Senior group, younger don't mind, older does not want around (grandparents). >:D

Lets face it some folks don't want cadets (kids)around.

this is not a thread about seniors and cadets, it is only about how often senior squadrons should meet.

^ Allowing drift into reasons for the posters opinion on why the meeting is what...... should be allowed.

Honestly......you already have a broad range of answers.  I doubt you will get much more opinion varying from those already posted.

Anyway......this will get locked around the end of this page when Godwins Law comes into play   :o
