Last Weekend I took command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company during a Change of command ceremony. Wish me luck. I look forward to the challenge of command

More importantly, learn WHY he drinks - and be prepared to spend a lot of time on it.  ;D

Flyguy: back in the day, I commanded Hq Co twice.  Not always a fun job, but you will enjoy most of it.  You get to own the troops after 1700 and before 0600 and you get all the crappy details.  Hope that your Hq staff officers are not too hard to get along with.

Congratulations.

The first time I was a 1SG, I had a Mech Inf Bn HHC in Germany.  The Bn CO and CSM were the absolute best at supporting the CO and I.  They showed up for PT everyday, so the rest of the staff did also.  They also were good about attending all of the mandatory training events like weapons quals.  Absolutely two of the finest gentlemen I had the pleasure to know and I learned a lot from them.

I was the acting 1SG (four months) of a Divisional Cavalry HHT and had a great time.  Dealt with some real professionals then also.

We will not talk about the DS FA Bn HHB or the DivArty HHB that came later in life.

Either way, good luck.  You will remember this time for the rest of your life.

Congrats and Good Luck.  From your previous posts you are in the Guard.   Running a Company in the Guard is more difficult than on AD (if you can believe that).  You have to deal with just as much as the AD folks, but you only get so much time each month where everyone is actually around.  My wife had a HHC back in 99-02 and it was the best experience in her career.  Plus as the Commander, you get to host the X-Mas (holiday party) party now.

Just think....now you get to sit through both Battalion and Company meetings.
