QuoteThis also should explain Sarkid's "sympathetic frequency" (a term not listed in any of my sources).

Oops, my bad.  Confusing my terms, SF comes from the music world.
So sweat - if you hadn't brought it up, we wouldn't have learned about the others.  I had forgotten about heterodyne.  The radio receiver that I learned morse code radio ops on an R-1004, part of the GRC-109.  It had what was called a super heterodyne receiver.  One of the knobs on the top was the BFO or beat frequency oscillator.  It had an internal frequency that would "beat" against the incoming RF.  For example, 6.5 MHz was a common long range frequency for us (or in that range under 10 MHz).  Since a 6 meg sound it too high for us to hear, the IF would change the freq to something we could hear.  One problem, tho - the enemy could DF the IF in the receiver.  We could get killed before sending the first signal.

I digress - that's how we learn from each other.

Tried going to 121.6 on both the aircraft and becker unit, nothing on there.

So here's how it ended. AFRCC got FCC involved Monday, they pretty much took it from there. We asked some aircraft flying over that area that were on approach into Nashville to listen to see if they heard anything, which they didn't. They started going missed pass early Tuesday morning, and have been negative passes since. Mission closed out w/ signal going silent.

Of note, our IC was talking to the chief engineer at 107.5, and although they couldn't find anything wrong with their equipment, the engineer did mention that one of his buddies at another station nearby WAS having issues with their equipment in the timeframe we were having these issues.

Just another one of those crazy missions I guess...

We had a similar issue in CAWG about the same time, a VCR or such was doing it.

Well, it looks like whatever it was, stopped doing it. No more hits.
