I hope no one needs recruiting materials...

I hope that no one needs to get recruiting materials from NHQ.  The "opportunities knock" pamphlets are out of stock without replacement and will be until the new brochures are designed, approved and printed.

Word on the street is that they are switching back to the program specific (tri-fold) brochures.

I'm pretty dissapointed that the choice was made not to order any to fill in the blank space between running out and the arrival of the new brochures.  Heaven forbid if units actual need materials to give out to potential members, especially in the middle of the summer (air shows, school starting back up, parades, old home days, etc.)

Don't get me wrong, I am glad they are changing the brochures and can't wait for the new product, but you can't just not have [professional] recruiting material.

I can understand not wanting to order 100K of the things - but for a national organization to choose to "not have recruiting materials available" I think is a poor decision and poor planning [time frame].

I can agree with you. There's always talks that recruiting is down in CAP, then something like this happens. How are we supposed to recruit, and be taken seriously if we don't have any materials?

My concern is that the new material will be made available for download only, making the squadrons foot the cost of printing.  That, IMHO, would be a disaster.

Have you looked at the Forms & Publications page of the national website lately? That cat is most definately already out of the bag.

I think they'll still make recruiting materials available in "hardcopy".

If you print a regulation on a $20 home printer, it's usable.

If you print a tri-fold color brochure on a $20 home printer, it looks embarassing.

That said, you may see something like the CAP Fact Sheet become available only as a download.  But the full color, pretty picture materials will almost certainly be professionally printed.

Honestly, when it comes to recruiting, every squadron should be as self sufficient as possible. Most public libraries have color laser printers, and with a little talk with a manager, they could donate some copies. Or just fund raise and set some money apart for recruiting purposes.

Your kidding me right?

You would actually put the burden of funding recruiting materials onto the already underfunded units.  You do realize that a majority of the units in CAP are strictly member funded right?

So, instead of them receiving this material that is essential to their existence and will ultimately grow the unit.  You would have them spend their money that the cadets and seniors worked for to buy things like uniforms and help their cadets pay for encampment, you would have them divert that money to recruiting materials?

Understanding that if you put this on the units you will range from materials drawn in crayon and copied on a cap supplied copier to professionally printed material designed by people like tedda.

It would be detrimental on a few dozen levels to have the units fund their own recruiting material, not to mention that its just bad form for an organization of this size to require such a thing.

If nothing else we should be developing a much more organized, centralized, better funded recruiting program to include materials

You still lose a lot of quality in the reproduction.  Professionally printed brochures are worth the money, and NHQ can take advantage of economies of scale to get better rates to print the brochures.

Besides, the squadrons that need recruiting materials the most are the new and/or fledgling ones, it doesn't make sense to tell them they need to raise money to hand out good-looking recruiting materials.  IOW, you're putting the biggest burden on the units that need free help the most.

Having units develop/print their own recruiting material is NOT a good idea - nor should it even become part of a solution.  We are a membership organization, which means that we need members.  For a membership oriented organization to not have professional literature and divert the cost down to the members to produce recruiting material for them is completely unprofessional and inappropriate.

Recruiting materials are funded by appropriated dollars, so they should always have materials available (considering we return about 1 million every year...).

The staffer at NHQ said that the decision to not order/produce more of the current ones was made by the National CC, Col Greenhut, the director of Member Services "and others."  Now, they're obviously not dumb people.  I'm pretty sure their intent was to be in a situation to not have to produce the old ones again.  Which means that someone isn't doing their job - new materials should have been designed and recieved BEFORE the old ones ran out.

This is an unfortunate situation, especially for my unit, we are due to start a major recruiting drive at the end of August.. However, though poorly planned, I am not sad to see the 'Opportunities Knock' pamphlets go away...

Does anyone know when the new materials will be in?

Is Vanguard in charge of printing?
If so I'd guess 2012

I sure as heck hope not. 2012, and it will cost $5 per pamphlet...

FYI, they don't even have a slot for the knocks brochure to be ordered from eservices anymore.  However, they just say it is out of stock rather than "discontinued".  If they do drop it, I hope they chose a more standard brochure size -- had to buy new brochure holders for opportunity knocks that will know be useless -- but still have the older small holders that I can put to use again.

The "Opportunities Knock" will NOT be coming back.  The decision was made to go back to individual brochures for each program (CP, Seniors, etc).  They will be standard tri-fold brochures.

Someone right here on this board is designing them. (Not me).

That is very good. It is nice to be able to hand a prospective member a brochure with information they are interested in, not something where they have to read a bunch of irrelevant info, or sit there and weed out what they care about and what they don't. Logic would dictate that they would be more likely to read it if they know it pertains to them...

You can probably put more info on individual pamphlets rather than just a space on a one-size fits all type solution...
