For those chaplains on the board who haven't heard....there is a new issue of the Chaplain Service E-News.

Snipped from e-mail sent by Tracy Harris, Chaplain Service Program Manager:

Your wait is over!  The March/April 2008 edition of our Chaplain Service E-Newsletter is now available.  Please use the following link to access the current edition:

Interesting that they have an article slamming big name people in the government and other places for proclaiming faith, but not attending church.  For example, pointing out that Pres. Bush rarely goes to church.

And why the heck is this in there?
QuoteBLACK COLLEGES
LincolnReview--The graduation rate at traditional Black colleges in 2007
was less that 30% and most students have very poor writing skills, refuse
to purchase text books and vandalize their dormatories.
(Sept 2007)
and then this:
QuoteBLACK LAW STUDENTS
LincolnReview--A UCLA law professor published a study of the consequenses
of affirmative action and concluded that there are fewer black attornies
today than there would have been if colorblind admissions were left
alone.  Affirmative action has forced fair-minded scholarship off the table, mismatching minority law students to schools they are inadequately prepared
for. (Sept 2007)

They put this statement above this and other non-chaplain related quotes from those and other news stories:
QuoteThe issues and comments contained in this column are gleaned from over one hundred monthly news sources. All of these sources are not in agreement
with the editorial policy of this paper and therefore are quoted for information's sake only and not for endorsement.

But, and I never thought I'd say this about a chaplains newsletter, but WTF??  Why are we bringing up stories about racial issues that tend to put one race in a bad light?  What possible connection does this have to the CAP Chaplain Service.

And this isn't new.  Take a look at the last issue: http://level2.cap.gov/documents/JanFeb_2008.pdf
stories about guns, abortion, anti-Christmas stuff.

And for some reason, both newsletters devoted significant attention to various statements about Nazis.

Again, WTF?  Aren't we supposed to be a non-political non-profit corporation?  If so, why are our chaplains publishing a newsletter that seems to be pushing a political agenda?

RiverAux

Oh man, I keep reading and it keeps getting worse.  I especially like how they say that religious liberals are more likely to be involved in pagan religions

If he is wearing the Corporate Uniform, then the U.S. should be removed from the collar (and it could be that is a pic taken before the U.S. was removed).  That is one of many reasons why I will not wear the Corporate Uniform.

Okay...just enlarged the photo .... a ribbon is missing and the nameplate is wrong.  The collar insignia is correct - CAP.

Close.

Just so I don't turn this into a uniform thread, I'll confess the error.

Military ribbons on the corporate uniform.

Anyway, he earned them....I say wear 'em regardless of CAP "regs"

This is exactly what I found of chaplains when I was on active duty - they're political and if you're not a Protestant, forget it.  They talk a good game but if one is a Catholic or a Mormon and your chaplain is some sort of Evangelical they'll do what they can not to support you.

Example:  in Mogidishu, non-protestant soldiers tried to use the religious facilities and were denied.  They went ahead and found an unused room elsewhere.  I've been attacked by chaplains for my religious beliefs over and over by these people and I'm tired of it.

Both of those issues were full of political tripe.  They should be ashamed and the Chief of Chaplains should be relieved.  Pretty blatant violation of the Oath and Covenant of the CAP Chaplain Service.

What would really be nice is if the proofers (I'm assuming they even have someone proofing this) knew how to spell Canadian or combat

I'm a little surprised at the few comments made about the contents of these newsletters.  Perhaps some of our more prolific posters are skipping this thread based on the title....

Cecil DP

I read the issues and they're very political and I can't believe the only mention of the Catholic Chaplaincy is of the courtmartial. I don't think there is much in there that benefits CAP or its membership. I hope this is not reflective of how the active duty chaplains behave or publish in their newsletters. Personnally, I don't think there are any moral values being displayed.

Trust me, most AD chaplains are overwhelmingly the same.  You will see some low density faiths represented but these chaplains keep their mouths shut - not "playing the game" will ruin your career.

Both of the recent newsletters have been removed from the CAP web page... NHQ is watching....

Good! Too bad they haven't removed any chaplains.  There is obviously a lack of discipline there.

God bless the Chaplains, but........that letter was terrible!
