Man... there's a quote I was looking for and can't find it.  It says something about how people want cops to go out and arrest a potentially dangerous person but don't want to see how it's done... I'll find it.

I don't know if this is the quote you're looking for, "There are two things you never want the public to see how it's made, sausage and laws."

As far as discussing things that don't relate to CAP, I've seen numerous threads about non-CAP stuff. I've also seen numerous threads where people take events from there own life and relate them to the thread. It's nice to know that we can at times talk about things that don't relate to CAP, it means that we don't all have a one-track mind. And if you don't like talking about something that doesn't have to do with CAP, here's the simplest solution, ignore it.

Here's a funny little thing I just realized, I think I've seen more non-CAP/non-cadet related topics on the CadetStuff forums, and rarely does anyone seem to get there undies in a bunch over it. I guess cadets are more capable of talking about life outside of CAP than some seniors are. Interesting.

Also, sorry just have to trow this in, as someone who is not now nor never has been a cop, I didn't see anything wrong with FP writing about what he had to do in his job and how it related to that thread.

There is no "nice" way to arrest a potentially dangerous, combative suspect. The police are our bodyguards, or hired fists, batons and guns. We pay them to do the dirty work of protecting us, the work we're too afraid, too unskilled or too civilized to do ourselves. We expect them to keep the bad guys out of our businesses, cars and houses, out of our face. We want them to "take care of the problem." We just don't want to see how it's done.

Nope, this is one.

I read the post and it related to me as a CAP member.

Did it relate to you "as a CAP member", or to you "who happens to be a CAP member"?  Those aren't the same concepts.  Just because something relates to someone who is a member doesn't make it CAP-related.

I have to ask myself why we're getting our undies in a bunch over such a small percentage of the topics that have been discussed.  Yet, this is the third time (in my limited memory) that we've had complaining about locked topics.  Personally, I don't see that it's worth getting that worked up about. Moderators keep their communities on track as the administration sees fit.  It's that way on every forum I frequent.  Then again, I also think this community is a little out of whack, so...YMMV...

Hey! It was a safety briefing, ok? Happy now? What cadets shouldn't do in school because it isn't safe to do.

Also, to keep in mind that their friends might be going through a hard time and to be able to identify friends that need help before they do something like that.

That's the one.  It's hanging on the wall in our patrol room, and is one of the best quotes about law enforcement that I know of.

Flying Pig

No......my other one is. >:D

Well yeah, but that one would get you in trouble again...

So, I start a thread in the section that says:
Get to know one another, chat with other members and field topics not covered elsewhere. All topics should relate to CAP and be of interest to CAP members in a professional aspect.

Totally relates to all the above.  The thread lasts 10 minutes and then gets locked.  I like to get topics started where CAP members can get to know each other and such.  If we are not supposed to post anything fun, or happy, maybe we should just delete all the emoticons that everyone uses, right?

No one will ever agree, but for goodness sakes, give people a chance.

Um, I may be wrong (I'm not a mod, nor do I know their intentions / reasoning behind it all) but asking someone to publically post their height is a major PERSEC (Personal Security) violation.  I would definitely see that as a factor here, given that a good amount of the posters on this board are current / former military-types.

YMMV.  JMO.

Flying Pig

Not Persec.  And people would be posting it voluntarily on their own.  Nobody was being forced to post anything.

^ ummmm....what?!?!

PERSEC?  Weight and Height?..........no sorry it's not.

If it were, there would be no weigh ins in the military, as the height and weights may get stolen by terrorists.............

Then I'm wrong.  No need for for the attitude.   ::)

Sorry if anyone was offended by the post.  I just like to have threads that I know will not cause arguments, but will give members a chance to get to know each other better...  And if anyone felt like that was too personal, No, they were not forced to do anything.

Also, one more thing... If that would be a PERSEC violation, then I guess we better not have any more picture threads or anything like that.
