If you were a cadet years ago and earned a Mitchell or something and lost the certificate how would you go about getting it replaced if you wanted it? Assuming it was a recent award, say the award was earned within the last decade.

NHQ is good about keeping records. I suggest contacting Jennifer Carroll, or Susan Parker at NHQ, and inquire with them. You may be able to get a new certificate.

It depends . . . after (guess) five years, they get rid of records.  I was there once asking about it - they told me that they only keep inactive records a (relatively) short time.  But if you have some other type of documentation, they might be able to help you.  (All of my stuff was gone after a break in service).

I earned the Mitchell award in 1981 and over the years had lost the certificate.  My membership lapsed in 1986 and I did not rejoin until 2005.   I had none of my past records and my former squadron had destroyed them long ago.  I contacted NHQ and they found my Mitchell award and even found records from the 1979 Texas Wing Encampment I attended.  (Interestingly, they had no record of the 1980 and 1981 encampments I attended.)  They were able to re-associate the Mitchell and the encampment to my e-services member record.  All it took was a phone call to NHQ!

As it was explained to me a couple years ago, as long as it's a numbered award, I don't know when they started numbering cadet awards, it is recorded as an item of historical significance.

I don't recall if the Mitchell I earned in 1981 was numbered but when national HQ found it in 2005 they listed no number on the replacement cerificate and it shows "n/a" for the number on my e-services member report where the Mitchell is listed.

Mitchell and Earhart awards began numbering in January 1979. Previously, certificates were unnumbered.

I'm thinking your Mitchell number would be in the low 2400s, as mine was 2375, awarded on April 30, 1981.

Spaatz awards have been numbered since the beginning in 1964.

Ah ha! I always wondered how I got Earhart #302 in DEC of 79. I knew there had to have been more than 300 Cadet Captains since the beginning of the award, so I figured they started the numbering over each month or something.
