AF Recruiting Support

Since I mentioned CAP doing more direct AF support, here is one mission that CAP can help with on a nationwide basis that essentially costs nothing....

CAP members could provide direct assistance in recruiting people into the Air Force.  The Coast Guard Auxiliary has been doing it for years and really ramped up in the last few as meeting recruiting goals became a major priority.  This can range from staffing recruiting booths at remote locations to staffing recruiting offices.  Aux members do this at various levels up to and including basically being a full-fledged recruiter.

This is in addition to a CG Aux mission of recruiting people to go to the Coast Guard Academy.  Not sure how much help the AF needs on that front though.

With the AF also struggling to recruit, this seems like a no-brainer.

Cue the CAP Identity Crisis.

Is CAP always the Auxiliary of the Air Force? No.
Is the Cadet Program intending to recruit for the military? Not technically.
Do we have a consistent/common appearance across our member corps in how we dress? Nope.

Thought all those AF ROTC Orientation Flights were the ticket when funding was available?

Are we talking enlisted folks here? Thought the current Administration was all over itself about the numbers of recruits enlisting currently

Why would the AF be suffering unless cadets desires are to be gunslingers....

The Air Force is not hurting for recruiting numbers right now, according to what they have posted over on af.mil they have reached 75% of their yearly goal at only 6 months into the year so far.

Not sure how this has anything to do with my suggestion.

There were two national conferences in a row where some pentagon guy that had something about "manpower" in his title nearly dropped to his knees to beg CAP to help with Air Force recruiting. So it is something the Air Force has asked CAP to do, although there's been no organized approach to meeting that request.

I'm going to put some of that back on the AF.  They need to very specifically lay out what they want CAP members to do (and not do) and then CAP needs to develop the program.  Now, this could vary a lot.

Maybe they just want us handing out recruiting brochures at our own events such as a CAP booth at an airshow.

Or, do they want us to do a more proactive approach by going out and placing AF-recruiting brochures and posters at various venues, or take it up a notch and have CAP staffing booths primarily aimed at AF recruiting at events,

Or, going bigger and providing general office support at AF recruiting stations, or actively getting involved working with potential recruits in a more hands-on way.

CAP can't develop this sort of program without guidance from above on what they want us to do.

I suspect that if they want the last option that they may need an AFI governing in more detail how CAP works with the AF recruiters.

Its certainly possible that the AF has provided more specific requests that we haven't responded to, and that would be very disappointing.

Perhaps I would add money for "Recruiting O-Flights" in addition to your list, it's not a far-fetched idea for USAF/USSF Recruiters to offer "Free Airplane Rides" (via CAP) as an incentive to join up.

Not a crazy idea.  Might be difficult to do in the sort of numbers that they need though.  Not sure if we're still flying JROTC around.
