The nomination for Richard Anderson of Virginia to be Assistant Secretary of the Air Force has been sent to the Senate.

Some of us remember him as National Commander, retired AF colonel, and Spaatz Award recipient.

Well, it will be nice to have someone in the secretariat who we don't have to explain what CAP is, how it does it, etc, all the time.

Weird shower thought: I know General Anderson isn't super active these days (ie. I see him at conferences, but I doubt he's active on the "meetings & missions" circuit). I wonder what arcane conflict of interest rules exist in DoD whereupon he'd have to "stop being General Anderson for awhile"? That would be weird.

I suspect this probably hasn't been encountered too often in CAP's history, and certainly not in the last 50 years or so.

When he was on active duty that question came up\when he ran for National Commander and the AF JAG ruled that there was no conflict.

He had that "problem" when he was the Nebraska Wing Commander. In the AF he was a Major while in CAP he was a Colonel. But there are a lot of CAP members who have had that "problem". And it really has never been a problem.

But that's not the same as a "conflict of interest", Phil.

In any event, it was just a random thought that hit me in the shower, I doubt it will amount to anything. But I think we'll just see more "Assistant Secretary Anderson" and no "General Anderson" for a few years.
