Grover Carlton McCall Jr., 66, of Alexandria, VA, died Friday, May 17, 2024, in Culpeper, VA. He was born June 15, 1957, to the late Grover Carlton McCall Sr. and Margaret Blanch Brown McCall in Dover, Delaware. Grover Sr. was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroic action in Vietnam. Grover Sr. was a pilot, and Grover Jr. developed a love for all things related to aviation.

Grover was a lifelong learner with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry-Riddle, a B.S. in Asian Studies from the University of Maryland, an M.S. in System Management from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. from Northcentral University with a focus on cybersecurity. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1980 and completed numerous military education courses. For more than thirty years, he was a college professor teaching Computer Science and Information Systems with the University of Maryland.

After 9/11, he voluntarily transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves as a Major, then was promoted to Lt. Col. He served in Afghanistan and Iraq. The highlight of his career was being a professor of Computer Science at the US Military Academy at West Point for three years. He and April offered loving support to a number of international cadets. He continued to work in cybersecurity until his death.

As an aviator, he was a certified pilot, flight instructor, with ratings for instrument, glider, commercial, and Advanced Ground Instructor. He belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, and Civil Air Patrol.

His hobbies included bicycling; he rode solo across the USA, Hap Ki Do 2nd-degree black belt, many marathons including the Morocco desert, and triathlons.

Grover is survived by his wife April Yun, his son William, and daughter-in-law Crystal of New Mexico, and his grandchildren William, Kayden, and Arya. He has two sisters, Margaret McCall Pinther of Florida, and Mary McCall Stone of South Carolina, also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends around the world. He is preceded in death by his brother Major David Hamilton McCall of the USMC.
