The fact that we are even having this conversation about cadets and toys is soooo depressing. The cadet program has lost its way. :'( :'( :'(

Seen them in school. 90% of the time, they're just adding more distraction to the user rather than helping anyone focus. However, I do have a friend that would pick his skin till he bled, but no longer does so now that he can keep his fingers busy. Sometimes they're beneficial, usually they aren't.

While helping with crowd control at a small local airshow, I saw a younger cadet intently operating his fidget spinner on the flight line. Needless to say, I politely recommended he put it away and pay closer attention to the much more expensive lethal spinners in his vicinity.
