Didn't know there was such a creature. Kinda cool to have squadron-level meetings near NHQ.

Its a relatively "normal" unit (if there is such thing), that has very little to do with NHQ.  I spent 5 years as a cadet there, as well as a good part of my senior career.  The unit commander is a good guy.

I suppose that's better and more workable for the members there, but the kind of thing that
has frustrated and confused me for years.

Most wings have a unit that meets at or near HQ - with ready access to wing staff and resources,
these units should serve as the example for the rest of the wing, and the Maxwell unit
should be the textbook of what a unit looks like for the rest of the organization.

Yes, I know, chain of command, echelons, etc., etc., but it's not like these things are generally
recognized, except when convenient anyway, so there should be some "home team advantage".

I mean purely from a pragmatic perspective, if a unit that meets in Wing's backyard, struggles,
what can you expect from one somewhere in "fly over"?

Not many people remember the days when National Headquarters was at Ellington AFB (now Joint Base Ellington) when CAP was part of CONARC (maybe some of the historians know). Ellington still exists and like other CAP units has had its ups and downs.

So on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday it's just cadets?  >:D >:D

Might want to rephrase that one.

A squadron I used to belong to does that. They do composite squadron activities on the weeks that seniors and cadets meet, and they do cadet squadron activities on the weeks that cadets only (and the senior support staff for cadets of course) meet.

I think he was implying....that there were NO seniors presents on the "cadets only" nights.

Was the confederate flag on the squadron patch then?   8)

Yes.  I have a couple iterations of the patch somewhere.
