I have to shave every day and can't wait to get out of the service.  I want to skip a day or two. Looking forward to it.  3 more years.

I am a disabled veteran that served active duty in the Army.  ...

Robb take full advantage of all available Veteran programs now. Do not wait twenty years to see how you can screw things up because you are too manly for counseling today. BTDT take care my friend.

One of the most professional and educated members I have ever met in CAP sports a beard to cover a wicked scar. Has never kept him from his duties in CAP or as a Corrections Officer.
One of my favorite photos of myself,  Im rocking a beard, baseball cap, shirtless but with a plate carrier, in Ranger Panties, go fasters and Im sending mass quantities of rounds down range. I bet Al Qaeda was miffed that the guy shooting at them wasnt clean cut....

How did I miss this? Pics or it didn't happen! lol

Still a major after all these years.

Welcome to CAPTalk and thank you for your service! We have a few members that were disabled out of the armed forces and they have no problem with benefits, but each case is different, so check carefully.

If you do join.. Welcome. I hope you enjoy your 'tour' with CAP.

No, Oct 24 was the last meeting I attended, and usually I shave on Thursdays, so then I was talked into no-shave November, and I didn't want to start again and go through the serious itch phase twice, plus the guys already had respectable beards going...

Roger that. No-shave November is awesome. Actually I can easily be talked into not shaving whenever I am not at home. The wife does not approve of the security operator look

Death4Golf-

There is plenty of Disabled Veterans on CAPTalk and in CAP. I am a Disabled Veteran myself. I found CAP the same reason you are, I needed to fill a void in my life.

There is a big difference betwen Military and CAP. I have learned this the hard headed way. There is some Fat & Fuzzies in CAP, and it is ok because they have different Rules and Regs than the people who chose to wear Airforce Uniforms. I would suggest to find your Niche in CAP. There is plenty of things to do. I am active in Ground Teams, and Air Crew. I love the SAR aspect of CAP.

I read the article about the VA taking away SC disabilities for Volunteering. I havnt seen a case like that. If the VA consideres going to a meeting every week and doing some training once a month is considered work, then there is alot of Veterans who shouldnt be "Unemployable" Luckily, I am 100% and still work, I am not considered Unemployable. I Volunteer in CAP and the Red Cross, I found a Niche in both of them.

I wish you luck in your search

Boy...if that aint the truth.   I got so much BAD advice when I got out I kick myself.  If you are already a disabled vet then no doubt you have jumped into the process.  When I got out, I was told by some people who thought they were helping, to not take advantage of ANY VA programs, don't ever go get a VA disability rating, don't do anything but the GIBIll or it would look bad for then I applied to law enforcement.  Boy was I wrong.  I went to the academy with guys who had simple little VA ratings for hurt knees, lower back problems.... I never went.  Now, at age 39 it would be hard to go back for anything vs when I was 23.  I did have some lower back issues from humpin' an M240 for 7 years..... but I wasnt going to admit that to anyone because I was tough  ::)
I have a friend who legitimately HAS a purple heart but wont put it on any applications because he feels friends of his were hurt worse, and he feels bad about claiming it.  TBI from an RPG hitting next to him.  But, he gets passed over for Fed and state jobs left and right because their automated systems weed him out based on his responses.  Thats his decision to make of course but he's missing out on opportunities and missing those slots to people who don't have a PH.  Hopefully one day he can come to terms with it and take advantage or programs he's entitled to.

But again.... there is a lot of people out there waiting to help vets.  As far as your initial question, Ive worked with plenty of disabled vets in CAP.  No bearing at all on your VA rating or your benefits.
