My kids in the scouts are building their first Aid kits, and it's about time I replaced the crunchy ones in
all my gear.

Anyone have a particular brand or style they like?   Looking for a cheap source, preferably eBay, etc.

eBay has a lot of black tattooing gloves, wondering if they make any difference?  Non-latex preferred.

I keep a box around the shop for anything oily or dirty and noticed today they say "not for chemical protection".

Oops.

I use the blue nitrile gloves from Home Depot. They aren't guaranteed sterile, but the price is right, and they are OK in a typical first aid environment.

The only problem I see is the one-size-fits-all aspect.

Yeah, that's an issue for me - I need XXL.

Use the blue ones all the time at work. Keeps the waterproofing crap in the phone cables (aka ickypic) off of your hands.
They're pretty tuff yet thin enough that you still can feel things.

There was a guy in our garage we all hated with a purple passion. One night after arriving back late, I found out he was going on vacation. I set my revenge for an earlier slight in motion. I put old cable tips in his hub caps, and smeared ickypic all over his door handles, so when he returned he would get an unwelcome welcome back present.

I forgot the next day, Sunday, was inventory, and the boss had to go through our trucks.

He didn't call me out directly on Monday, but he and everyone knew about the feud. He calmly suggested that next time I try JB Weld on his locker.

You must be in Construction, you have a locker.   Maintenance don't get no lockers...

Blue it is, found them on eBay for about $12 a box of 100.

I thought the black ones looked cool but I think the kids were a little freaked out by them.

Just FYI, when dealing with gloves for medical uses, you dont want black gloves.  It's too difficult to tell when you get blood or other fluids on them.  My favorite is Kimberly Clark's purple nitrile gloves. (http://www.amazon.com/Kimberly-Clark-Examination-Gloves-Large-Size/dp/B003EV6XNA/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1413271031&sr=8-9&keywords=kimberly+clark+nitrile+gloves+large) ]Purple and light blue are the most common colors.

As for sterility, that is really only worried about in a hospital setting.  Pre-hospital, the only sterile gloves carried are in OB kits.

First, cadets read this board and I don't think the above is very good reading for them, especially the part about the ickpic - that is vandalism at best and destruction of property at worst. I find it hard, given CAPs values, that any of the above fits in that.

Second, you may have been lucky the boss found it. Things like you did have a tendency to escalate - they certainly would if I were your victim - and I guarantee you wouldn't like the revenge, which now tops what you did - and on and on.

Lighten up, Francis. We all have said much much worse. But, thanks for your input! Next caller, please!

I definitely recommend against Black Gloves.  Doing a Blood Sweep with black gloves is dumb...you can't see the blood or any other contaminant on your gloves especially in low light.  I like the Blue or Purple.  but Black is Tacticool just not very practical.

I made a post after you posted this reaffirming your exact point.

We did carry Sterile Gloves though but that was just primarily just for some interfacility transport work if you had the help manage an Arterial Line...which was only on a very rare occasion for that those find themselves in the back of an ambulance.  Sometimes I'd use Sterile Glove if I was handling sterile gauze and had to pack some kind of wound.  In theory they should still be carried, but I found that most Paramedics don't train on Donning the gloves properly and than having someone else who knows how to hand you a sterile object without contaminating it themselves.

Ah yessss, a victim of the dreaded Appendix E of the contract! :o

this is going to sound crazy but here goes.

Go to your local Taco Bell and ask to speak to the General Manager.

Taco Bell uses Nitrile gloves on their production line.  They go through so many that their cost is less than $9.00 per box.  Ask politely for them to donate a few boxes in exchange for a few hours of clean up duty on the property.

The gloves are THICK exam grade quality.

You may be pleasantly surprised when you get the gloves without the cleaning exchange.

I'll pay $90 for a box of gloves before I'll clean the parking lot at Taco Bell.

HEH - same thing I thought, but an interesting idea.

Kidding aside, this might be a good time to do BPP refreshers.

It would appear even medical professionals have some issues with the fundamentals, let alone CAP people.

I really hope they figure out HOW it was transmitted. Either there's a vector we don't know about that's semi-airborne, or some people are REALLY bad at realizing when they should be 10x more careful taking off ebola covered stuff.
