Just a reminder to anyone who is interested.............  Pacific Region is now taking registrations for the 2014 Region Staff College at Nellis AFB in Nevada for April 5th - April 12th, 2014.

More information can be found at... http://hc.pcr.cap.gov/pcrsc/

I attended PCR RSC in 2012 - it was outstanding.  I highly recommend it.  Just don't think you will have time to hit the strip - you won't!

By reputation PCR-RSC is the best in the nation.

Graduated PCRSC in 2009. You may be able to see the buildings of downtown and the Strip from Nellis AFB but during the school your schedule is going to be extremely busy. Depending on mission requirements you'll probably tour the Red Flag facility and get a briefing normally given to VIPs, tour the Thunderbird hangar (whatever you do, don't go near the Thunderbird seal painted on the immaculate floor of the hangar - it's roped off for a reason) and climb aboard captured Rooskie equipment in the Threat Training Facility, aka the 'petting zoo'. Later on during the week, if the seminar leader feels the group is caught up or ahead of the game with their graduation presentation he or she might let the group outta the coop and visit one of the locals casinos nearby.

2011 PRSC grad. Couldn't agree more with all the positive comments. Great programing, super venue and best of all, an outstanding staff.

I signed up for the Region Staff College! I've got my plane and accommodations all set - now I just need to wait for the online payment link to go live. I'm looking forward to the experience very much!

I noticed you said you had your " accommodations all set" .  You realize that you stay on the Base and not in an area hotel, correct?

All students and faculty stay at the Nellis AFB billeting facility with very few exceptions (members who live in the Las Vegas area who have access to the base). One set of billeting facilities is within walking distance to the BX and a little longer schlep to the Airman Leadership School facility - though most times you will be taken to and from in a CAP van. The other set of billeting facilities is close to the O-Club and chow hall; most faculty and staff members stay there. (Not sure if these facilities are for field-grade officers; the other one is generally for company grade officers and enlisted.)

I wouldn't be so sure about the locals.
I remember one member of my seminar that kvetched for whole week about exactly that, being forced to stay at the Warrior Inn vs. going home, since he lived right near by. It was reiterated over and over that this was an "in residence course".

It really got tiring listening to it. :)

I think only the faculty and staff get that privilege... :)

Someone who lives locally can ( based on a valid necessity) request to commute. Other than that, everyone stays on Base. This includes staff. If a faculty member lives in the area, they obviously commute, but folks flying/driving in to teach a class are given a billet if they are staying overnight.

It has happened more than once, for either security training or a real-world concern, that the Base has been locked down for a period of time. Thus anyone staying off-site would be unable to get to class when required.

Plus there are course assignments that require the seminars to work together after normal class hours. If folks were scattered all over the area.... this would be tactically a nightmare.

Anyway....................

Yes, by "all set", I meant that my accommodations in whichever dorm they see fit to house me have been situated. The POC for PRSC has been absolutely excellent with communication and coordination. I'm very much looking forward to meeting with people from all around the Western region since, as an East Coaster, this is my first time on West Coast CAP territory. I hope they won't hold it against me too badly :-P

The Warrior Inn is pretty decent as far as billeting facilities go, and you're within walking distance of the 'Express' (formerly the Shoppette) and the BX. The Express is open 24/7.

You'll be fine. Rooms are allocated from either the Warrior Inn or the Nellis Inn. The barracks on Nellis are not used by PRSC.

Actually, the Director (Lt Col Blackey,) is a former Massachusetts girl, hailing originally from Stoneham. And two of the staff members are from Massachusetts.

There have been several MAWG attendees at PRSC over the last few years, so they are well used to it. Being able to swap ideas and practices with other region members is a prime attraction of the school, so I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Were you sending this from either Area 51, the TARDIS, or Mr. Sherman's Way Back Machine? Obviously the RSC has been over for almost a month, but posted today.

Welcome on board, Liz!

Chappie

Liz...Welcome.   Having been a member of the PCR, I can tell you from first hand experiences that the PCR Professional Development section is one of the best in CAP -- and the PCR consistently conducts the best Region anc Chaplain Corps Staff Colleges.  The curriculum, the staff, the location (s) are outstanding.  And the students who attend leave having experienced a great time of learning and networking -- and some fun along the way.  And it's due to folks like Liz and those who serve with her who are both personable and professional.
