OK, this is an interesting thingI found by accident while looking up a completely different actor.  While I was searching I found this photo of Dick Martin (of Laugh In Fame) in what looks like a CAP Uniform.  Anyone know more?  Moderators please move this if necessary.

There are some issues with the uniform and as I understand it he was an airline pilot during the 1st Season.

More than likely, no. If you watch the movie "The Toy" with Richard Pryor, the kid, who goes to some military academy, is sporting the old-style plastic cadet ribbons. This is probably the case here. Some prop master found a CAP saucer hat device and used it.
Still a major after all these years.

Enlarge the photo, and you will also see a CAP cutout on his coat lapel...

Two coincidences, the cap and the cutout...?

Probably...

"Martin as Harry, Lucy's airline pilot neighbor, on The Lucy Show, 1962.

IMDB says this is Dick Martin's first TV acting performance.

Totally out of whack. It's a thrown together uniform that has some CAP parts. The chin strap is wrong, the buttons are wrong, there's no nametag or "Coca-Cola" patch.

Yes, but is it not fascinating nonetheless?

I skimmed the season 1 episodes that IMDB lists him as appearing and found plenty of
him, but none in the uniform.  S1E1 isn't any where I could find, but my guess is that's
probably the only episode he appeared in the uniform (when she meets him).

There is an episode on Youtube with Dick Martin where they do a double date, but he is wearing a 1960s suit.  I wonder if that was part of a "press kit," maybe his character was to have been more than it was and Martin left the show or his character was forgotten.  In the early seasons she had children, she was a widow.  They used to show it on Nick-At-Night.  Maybe it was intended for one of her children to be in CAP?  Who knows?

Heh - I don't know why I know this.

The Double date one was like S1E9 "No More Double Dates", S1E1 "Lucy Digs Up A Date." isn't on the net that I could find, but I'd bet that's
where she meets him and he's wearing the jacket.

But yes, it might just be a press kit photo, and they may well have just grabbed the first thing that was handy from wardrobe.

Cool through.

It's funny, when I first read it I thought it said "Dean Martin", which would have made it the Most Awesome CT Thread Ever" (MACTE)

I was perusing a blog I love to frequent, and the topic was a cheesy late 60s/early 70s sci-fi movie, and one of the protagonists, an Air Force officer, was wearing blues when he was introduced. Supposedly from the astronaut corps, he was wearing his rocket badge above where the nameplate would be. Was this correct? I was under the assumption that the pocket rocket was worn on one of the pockets under the flap.

I wonder if some Desilu executive of the time was a 60's era CAP officer and snuck it in there.  Is the Lucy Show on Netflix?

It's a long semi-related story, but one of my cadet uniforms wound up on the set of the old "Room 222" series while I was going to school in LA.  Seems they were doing a promo for CAP ( "Mr Dixon, why can't we have a CAP squadron here at Walt Whitman High?"). And they needed some cadet uniforms.

So I got to spend the day on the set, wishing Karen Valentine would ask me out.  (Look her up,)

I think my uniform got left on the cutting rom floor, but it was a fun day in my cadet career.

Here is a link to that episode....

Room 222 - CAP AE Promo (1973)

They don't show it but Bernie Kopel (Conrad Siegfried form Get Smart and Doc from The Love Boat) might have been the commander of the squadron in the "Spin Off"  SQUADRON 222.

You got to meet Karen Valentine?  I'm green with envy.  Wow!

Aside - one of my best friends in high school was almost a dead ringer for Karen Valentine.

I'll bet they figured the audience would think it meant something like "Civilian Airline Pilot" or something like that, heh. When I was still a 1st Lt I still got the classic, "What's CAP stand for, Captain?" when I decided to stop for a bite to eat on the way to meetings.
