As of today I am a member once again this time on the dark side >:D. Now it is time to get uniforms ordered from VG. Once I get level I done I will send up the paperwork for 1LT based on my Earhart and hopefully receive it. I absolutely HATE the new pocket protector that VG is selling and was wanting to find out the best way to set it up and what to order from VG. Does the blazer have to be brass buttons? I thought about buying the crest and then attaching a magnet so it could be held in place that way without the plastic. Does the rank pop out on the Blazer nametag or does a new one need to be ordered with each promotion? Next stop thrift store to find a proper navy blazer for cheap. I did use the search feature and most results were several years old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The crest actually has pins on the back... That's how mine is attached.

The grade emblem on the nameplate is detachable and they also sell the various grades as well... It has a little knurled nut on the back. So you can keep the nameplate and just upgrade the grade no problem.

The thrift stores are full of blazers as well as gray pants. You may need to visit a couple of them to find a good fit, but it's a great resource.

So it does come with pins? I was afraid it was basically a patch since it did not specify anything other than "This item is worn in combination with the blazer name plate and magnetic pocket device on the blue blazer with the white aviator shirt and gray pants".  Since it was worn as part of the pocket protector I didn't know how that would work.

Yep... Comes with 3 or 4 pins on the back.

No sewing unless you want to and it looks way better than the stupid pocket protector thing.

Awesome thank you Ed.

You're very welcome. And welcome back to the CAP. I just came back myself after 10 years away.

Funny that is my length of time away also. I decided at 29 I was stable and had squared myself away enough to return and give back.

Yeah... I left when I my better half and I got serious. I was 27 and she had 2 sons so I was an instant family man. I had no experience in that role so I was a little overwhelmed to say the least LOL. I did tell myself that I would be back if one of the kids ever decided to become a cadet.....

So here I am with a cadet riding to the meetings along with me. It is really good to be back and soo much better to be able to share the experiences with my son.

The crest comes in two styles. The one that comes with the plastic pocket thingy doesn't have pins, and fits inside nicely. The individual purchase item does have the pins, and looks much better. You do need to be careful not to wreck the fabric with the pins, so you can wear the blazer for other, non-CAP, stuff.

The CyBorg is destroyed

You can also get the crest/nameplate fitted with magnets.

I don't wear the blazer kit, but I have my nameplates/ribbon rack fitted with magnets.  Saves wear and tear on the fabric.

That is exactly what I was thinking about doing.

Watch out on the magnets. The chrome plating will eventually separate from the magnet, leaving a rough surface, and sometimes a sharp edge, that can damage the fabric.

I was going to say something about that but decided to just leave it be.

Jaison009

Thanks for the heads up.

By any chance, are you a teacher? You are always FTFY!

Anyway, I am a Library Teacher, and it annoys me when people have mistakes. Not that much, not to the point to correct them.

Unless they start using txtng abbreviations.

No, not a teacher, just someone who laments the decline of language skills today.

Eclipse and I are kool with the corrections. It gets to be a bit of a game. As for other corrections, I frequently send a PM, unless the correction might be of benefit to everyone. If someone doesn't know they've made a mistake, it's hard for them to fix it.
