The grade emblem on the nameplate is detachable and they also sell the various grades as well... It has a little knurled nut on the back. So you can keep the nameplate and just upgrade the grade no problem.

Except when you promote to captain ... you have to buy a new nameplate for captain because the captain's bars come with two pins and knurled nuts, while all the others have only one.  (N.B. - I've never seen the major general's blazer rank, so I don't know for sure if it has one or two.)  You can go back to the other one-hole-for-rank nameplate when you promote to major.

It used to be that you needed a new blazer nameplate when you went from Capt to Maj, because the alignment of the pins changed. Not sure if that's still true.

Also, when I ordered a new blazer nameplate last year upon my transfer to Virginia, the one I received had the CAP crest glued on. It wasn't a pin. In fact, it wasn't even glued, because it had fallen off in transit.

I took the CAP crest pin off of my New York nameplate, measured carefully on the Virginia one, and drilled a hole for the CAP crest pin.

Caveat emptor.

I ordered a silver leaf, dropped it and when it hit the floor the pin broke off.  Apparently "metal" is a subjective term these days.

There's nowhere I can wear it now!

Congrats! 8)

(not sure if that's a recent change or not)

Danke!  Couple years, though.

two words - super glue.

Did the same thing with my gold leaf, then forgot I had glued it - you really couldn't tell it was glued unless you looked at the back. Got my silver leaf, then was "reminded" I had glued the gold one down. Oh well, another nametag.

I'm hoping I can hot glue it from the back.  I may go with the magnets right away, too, if I've already got the drill press and bench grinder out, anyway.

My experience, though, is that the magnets don'e work as well on a thicker sport coat.

I lucked out. I got the corp/blazer name tag back when I switched to white/grey (due to not meeting weight standards in the 1998-1999 timeframe) as a Major, then got the screwpost Lt Col just, cuz, you know, I was pretty sure it would eventually happen.   >:D

I put the blazer on the other night for the local unit's Open House (its the only uniform us retired guys can wear) and discovered that I apparently don't need a 44R blazer any more, but maybe something like a 42R.  Losing 50lbs will do that to ya.

Feels good to discover your clothes are too big.

(At least I assume it does).  ;D

Yes, until you realize that you can't always get a *nice* replacement blue blazer at Goodwill. :)

(I had a very nice sport coat that I wore last week, and when I put it on it could have almost been double-breasted. I got it at Goodwill for like $6 or something.  It went back there this week..)
