If you want a good job in the Corps, fix airplanes. The duty stations are mostly better, and the work, IMHO, is more challenging.

If you're fixing A/C ask if the Corps or Navy course fulfills the FAA requirements for A+P certification. That's a post service job waiting for you.

Dave,

NAS Lakehurst actually was a decent duty station considering it is in New Jersey

The knowledge helps, but there is no direct crossover for most military specialties.I investigated that WIWOAD, and found out that most military maintainers are too specialized  to just jump into a certification when leaving the service. I was an avionics tech, but worked on almost everything else besides radios. Electricians work on power systems, and lighting. The metal manglers only do engines, or airframes, or support equipment.

I got to Lakehurst right when they lumped all the commands together into NAEC, in 1977. The hierarchy became primarily civil service oriented, and the military folks took it in the shorts.

In a word, it sucked. Worst place I was ever stationed, even if it was "NAS Backyard".

As for the NHL, I'm a 'Broad Street Bullies' fan, so this year's Stanley Cup is of little consequence.

Sir with all do respect I'd rather fly them, well helicopters actually. I actually have a few questions. Any Marine Aviators here?

How long do senior members have to wait before they can join.

That Q is a little backwards. You aren't a senior member until you join.

As for a wait, what do you think you are waiting for? Turn 18, be a senior.

Is there some other consideration I'm not seeing?

At my squadron for example potential cadets have to wait three weeks before they join. Is there a wait for potential senior members.

Generally, the same three weeks for brand new members. If you are already a cadet, and are crossing over, I would think that you can do it anytime. Some units might still want to do a membership board, but I see no other hindrances.
