To anyone who's attended HGA: for service dress, do they prefer you bring old or new style, or does it matter? I applied for HGA this year, and I know how strict honor guard is when it comes to uniforms.

Thanks

If you get selected....they will tell you what uniforms....specifically.....that you need.

You wear the service coat you have. For the past 2 years I've gone, there's been a nice mix of old-style and new-style Service dress, as long as it fits and you can fill it out you'll be set. But it's funny in all the pictures where the old-style coats stick out like sore thumbs because they look super shiny and bright, where the newer ones are darker.

Side note- I recommend taking two or three pairs of blues pants if you go.

By regs cadet wear either old or new

But for hg purpose for the academy I haven't a clue anymore as for home hg unit needs to be more conformed either all old style or all new

I having my hg unit do new style I'm supplying to them for that reason to cut their cost

Sorry for the semi-necro(Not really so). At NHGA, they accept all styles of service coat. This includes New-style enlisted(No epaulets), New-style officer(Epaulets) and old style(Epaulets regardless FTW). So, hope that answers it. If you're worried about the ability for them to pin the cord on, they have the enlisted cord(Solid all around, except in the 'pits) for the new style, non C/Officers, and they have the normal cord, the one with the "Break" in it to accept the epaulet. So, no worries, and have fun in hell!  >:D

Either style is acceptable as long as the COLORS between coat and pants match appropriately.  As far as bringing 3 pr of blues pants, not needed, most of the time you will be in the practice "uniforms" as in tee shirt and shorts.

You have enough required things to pack without padding your luggage and ending up paying over weight charges.   Have a good time.

When it comes to packing, pro-tip, pack ONLY what is on the packing list.  Seriously, as spaatzmom said, you already have enough to pack for two weeks without needlessly adding to it.
