Hmm, interesting information posted by many about the FPCON at specific military installations being accessible to anyone via websites or by calling a phone number :o

So I guess that leaves the typical CAP member with just being observant and keeping in mind the the potential preventive programs such as:

Air Force Eagle Eyes

General Aviation Secure Program http://www.tsa.gov/what_we_do/tsnm/general_aviation/programs_sp.shtm#general_aviation

America's Waterways Watch Program http://homeport.uscg.mil/mycg/portal/ep/contentView.do?contentTypeId=2&channelId=-18383&contentId=110924&programId=13122&programPage=%2Fep%2Fprogram%2Feditorial.jsp&pageTypeId=13489&BV_SessionID=@@@@1307794490.1304725055@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdadfdhjehgljcfjgcfgfdffhdghk.0

Perhaps CAP units on military installations can get someone from the security police/department to give a short briefing on security & terrorist alerts and how it will affect the CAP unit.

Any changes have also been released on local news and radio stations plus I may have missed the national stations.  When Homeland Security changed the set up from the color-coded chart, it was on national news.  So why shouldn't the general public be made aware of any new threat change?  Quite possibly the next threat will be detected by a civilian as opposed to the military who are generally rather cloistered on their base.

That is true, and you can bet that the terrorists (sleeper cells if you will) are more aware than ANY of us CAP members to base security, the color codes, and the procedures. We can call them a 3rd world country all we want, however, they are by no means dumb.

I totally agree with you on this, BUT any CAP member that becomes aware of ANY security procedure/status internal to the base, just shouldn't say anything in a public forum. WHY make it easier for anyone to know what is going on at a base ???  IF the appropriate base has a means for the public to find out the various codes etc than that is their decision.

Also again when approaching the military base perimeter security entry point, CAP member need to be aware (or perhaps beware) of anything that looks out of the ordinary on the approach road to the base.  Just report it to the gate guard.  Let them decide if it is worth checking out.   It is "possible" that the Office of Special Investigation might already have some roving covert patrols outside the base's technical surveillance area, BUT we wouldn't know that.

What if its a navy base? I think they should send NCIS, preferabbly WITH the cast from the show. Ziva is amazing.

You really think this is a joke don't you >:( >:( :(  Trust me it isn't a joke to those involved in securing a military base, and I frankly don't want to see any security personnel killed or serious injured either by a terrorist or whack job IF it's something that I see out of the ordinary and report.   Also I don't want to get killed either waiting in line to get checked into the base, so there's some self protection also involved :(

Reminding others to be vigilant and report suspicious acticity is great... but it wasn't your original point, which was closer to "Hey, let's all be secret squirrels, even though this information is publically accessable."

Speaking of NCIS, I feel this thread deserves some Gibbs-slaps:

Okay, first off, I was Army Infantry, so as for security, yes, I find it funny. It is the same thing you will learn from ANYONE who deals with trauma on a daily basis. You use humor to offset the daily routine of horror. Are we doing it to be mean? No. Are we doing it because we do not care? No. We do it because we need a release from what we experience. If you were in the service and had been to combat you would have known that. CISM does not work by itself.

Second, yes, security is important. Everyone should know the current FPCon status, as well as its meaning. They do not, however, need to know the particular protocols that go with each condition, nor does anyone who is not an MP or at the gates. Security is a serious issue, but if you take it to such an extreme you can not crack a couple jokes, then you have went above situational awareness and into the world of paranoia.
