My CERT class gave everyone a backpack full of gear at no charge.
CERT is my next stop in ES, when I get fed up enough with CAP Politics.

It is a lateral move at best, depending on how active your unit / wing is.  It should also not be considered mutually exclusive.

Just like CAP, CERT is almost entirely local.  Some municipalities use it regularly for everything from parades to floods, some do it
only to check a box on HLS and FEMA funding and never call their people.

If you are from a unit/wing that is active in ES, you'll encounter missions you'd never see in CERT.  If your unit / wing is not active,
then at least with most CERT teams you'll get called once in a while, as long as directing traffic or watching the back entrance to
the fair grounds is your "thing".
