Camp Atterbury has made changes to entering the post. They are now using a digital bar code scanner at the front gate that will require either a military ID or driver's license/state ID for adults. The system is also tied into Indiana law enforcement, so if there are any outstanding warrants/tickets, etc on the driver's license, the Johnson County Sheriff's department is establishing a satellite station at the post and will make an arrest.

Also, Camp Atterbury has established a Visitor's Center directly across the road from the main gate. Vehicles that do not have a military vehicle pass will be required to stop and get a pass for their vehicle.

As always, vehicles will require insurance and registration information.

Everyone, if you want a question answered quickly please send me email at the link below.  I only check CAPTalk maybe once a day but no guarantees.

Something I'm noticing this year is that students of several schools (GTL, MS/AP, MO/MP specifically) are being required to arrive on the day before the course begins. I think this is a good move. Last year, there were several GTL students (myself included) who followed the "arrive by noon" rule (I was even there an hour or so early) and found pre-tasking well underway (then someone accused us of being late, IIRC). Personally, I did not even get a chance to go to logistics to get my hat/tshirt/etc. Arriving a day earlier should relax the schedule of the course a bit.

In the name of constantly improving things a few of us asked that the need for students (GTL course students specifically, in my case) be better advertised. I'm sure some folks will still miss that message, but hopefully it's less this year than in years past.

Years ago (in the pre 9/11 days) NESA staff were able to check out buildings from Camp Atterbury several days before the activity actually started.   Staff could then go about setting up all the administration, check ins, medical facilities, and barracks.   In those days, arrival day was generally Saturday.   Starting around the 2003/2004 days, Atterbury became very busy as a mob/demob facility.   Now we are only guaranteed buildings the day before the activity starts.  With an activity the size of NESA, it is impossible to get set up in such a short amount of time.    We lost a good portion of a training day with that.   As it is, the NESA GTL staff (which includes Ed Bos, who you see here on Cap Talk) does a great job of getting students through a very task intensive week.

We now have the ability to have the GTL school (since it only runs session 2) arrive on the day before, which will give us more training time.

Major Bos,

Do me a favor and say Hi to Captain(maybe Major) John Erickson for me.  I mentored him as a cadet in Connecticut.  One of my better ones over the years.  I hear he is doing well and very involved in CAP up your way.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Wilco. I'm sure Lt Col Erickson will enjoy hearing from you  8) (he got his Wilson a year or two ago). He's also in my Guard Wing so I run into him fairly often.

Apparently?

Did you apply? Or is this something out of the blue? You seem surprised.

I am surprised. I forgot I applied and my Commander last night was like "did you know your approved to go to NESA?" Ha. We have no GTMs in my Squadron, and I had asked if another squadron would allow it (which around here its not an issue) I could go get my GTM training. Caught me off guard. Although, I have to decide between 3 things. NESA 24JUL-30JUL... Encampment 30JUL-06AUG, and then there is still the last couple days of the SAR Precautionary for Oshkosh. Busy summer.I dont think I am going to make it to encampment this summer, unless I can arrive late. Shame.

It's not too late to apply to INWG encampment. It runs the week before NESA in the same location so you can go straight from one to the other without leaving the base.

Sadly I can not. I will have to buy the rest of the gear I need around that time. In addition to that, I have some things to take care of earlier in the month, and I would like to be around on my Birthday (Jul 22). Oh well. Next year maybe? I would kind of like to attend a different encampment each other, kind of meet new people and learn different techniques of teaching, program ideas, etc...

Morning all!

There have been questions on being able to link directly to the payment site.  We have added a link to the NESA registration page to go directly to the site to pay for your schools.  Please do not use this link to just register for NESA.    This link is for those who registered for NESA but didn't pay during registration only.  If you have any problems with this link shoot me an email please.

Thanks,
