Hello my name is Kyle Pereira.I'm from NY. I'm 22.I graduated from Embry Riddle with a B.S in Aeronautical Science last year 2009 and I'm a commercial pilot both Single and Twin Engine certified. I'm attending graduate school at dowling college in New York. I was reading different posts and researched CAP and its very interesting and I became intrigued. I was never in any military ROTC program either. I'm interested in joining CAP and flying with them whenever needed or during any missions . I was wondering if anyone could provide me some information regarding the process. Also since I'm 22 if I remember correctly I would have to join as a senior member so what will I have to do.
Thank you
Kyle

You are to be commended in your interest in this very fine organization. The country is divided into 52 wings; one for each state along with Puerto Rico and Washington D. C. The New York Wing is considered to be one of the finest wings in the country (and I live 3,000 miles away) so you're in the right place.

Please take the time to go over this site. It's full of information that will give your a start on your path to membership. At the lower left you'll find a link which reads "find a unit near me". You should find something that's reasonably close to you. Once you've made contact with a unit close by you should find the members will be most helpful in answering your concerns.

Hello, thank you alot for the quick response. I heard about the NY wing before I went to college but I couldnt do anything because I was leaving. I researched the site and I am planning on calling the office tomorrow morning to find out some information. I'm very intrigued about the CAP.
Thank you

Not familiar with New York too much, but if there are a few CAP units in your area, the key is to visit more then one to get a feel of different squadrons and which one you might want to join.

You should really visit a unit and talk to the people there in person.  You'll get a lot more information that will be specific to LI.

Just pop your zip code in to this web site -- http://cap.findlocation.com/ -- and it will give you the list of the nearest units.  The squadrons on Long Island are all pretty active, so you should have no problem finding one that suits you.  Best of luck!

rock on for wanting to join! I was Originally from NY and was apart of a Squadron that met right outside of the Albany Airport. NY really is (as everyone else has said) one of the best around! Gather information about when and where the nearest squadrons meet and visit, would be my recommendation (get ahold of the POC first before you visit so they know your coming). There are alot of things you can do with your qualifications and good luck!!

Thanks Chris. I'm really interested in knowing more and seeing whats it all about. I do have a question. Is it true many of the pilots from CAP are now Airforce pilots?
