Richard E. Wonson celebrated almost 60 years of marriage before the Father in heaven decided to take Richard away to a better home, so Richard wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
Richard is survived by his wife of 60 years. Polly F. (Jones) Wonson. One daughter; Paula Ann Ferguson of Colorado Springs, Co., son; David and Jennifer of Austell, GA and a grandson; Theodore of Denver, CO, son; Richard and Coleen and two grand-kids; Brandon and Brenly of North Carolina.
Richard E. Wonson served in the United States Army 12 ½ years and retired with 36 years of federal service. Starting out in the United States Navy in Key West, Florida, this is where he met Polly Jones and married Polly in a whirl wind. Polly was teaching school in Key West, after having three children in Key West. After serving in Key West in 1966, Dick was transferred to the National Park Service. Dick served at Sanford Recreation Area, Alibates Flint Quarry in Texas. Tumacacori National Monument in South Arizona. The Denver Service Center and the Rocky Mountain Regional Office in Lakewood, Colorado, then to the Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. He then went on to Devils Tower National Monument, near Hulett, Wyoming on to the last duty station Thomas Edison NHS in New Jersey where Dick retired in December 1989.
Dick and Polly are members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Milton Chapter #189. Dick was a member of Santa Rosa Lodge #16, and Pensacola Scottish Rite - AASR.
Dick AC4KA and Polly AE4AU both are extra class hams. They are members of the Milton Amateur Radio Club. They were also members of the Old Old Timers Club (OOTC), ARRL, OES, Volunteer Examiners and ARES.
Dick and Polly are long time members of the Civil Air Patrol. Both Dick and Polly have achieved over 50 years of service to the Civil Air Patrol.
Dick and Polly are members of the Pensacola Volksmarch Club and both have been Past Presidents. Dick was held an FVA state office. They have volkswalked several times, in every state (50 states) and 51 state capitol, Old Mexico and clear across Canada and British Columbia to Nova Scotia including PEI and Newfoundland.
Dick and Polly have been very active in Square Dancing, dancing at the Advanced and Challenge levels and were members of the Canoe Squares Club in Milton.
