Tools of the trade / New CAP VHF Radio Programming
Last post by ee1993 - May 25, 2025, 06:25:59 PM
Has anyone started the process of instilling any of the new CAP radio code plugs?  If so, have you run into any issues?  Deadline for having all radios reprogrammed in the end of December, but you know that these thing are often put off until the last minute.

Wow, I guess it is a matter of perspective, but 2% sounds very, very good indeed.  That is certainly a larger percentage than show up for the big Scouting America conference.  And the overwhelming majority of the CAP volunteers attending choose to do so because they believe the conference is worthwhile for them.

QuoteI know wing and region commanders keep pushing for in-person conferences each year, but I suspect their tune would change if they had to pay their own travel and lodging like the rest of the membership does.

You may be right.  Each of us makes a choice about how much or our personal time and treasure we spend attending CAP activities.  Literally hundreds of members choose to pay their own way to the conference.  I have cheerfully done so dozens of times.  Looks like I am going to KC next year.

The only thing I would like to see going forward is the proposal they sent to the USAF and DOD, just to understand what CAP leadership thought was the best idea for the CAP version of the OCP uniform. What I'm getting at is:

I understand your interest, but CAP leaders have learned the hard way more than once that once you publish anything uniform related, even in draft, lots of uber passionate uniform fans will treat it as law.

QuoteSo, if something changes from the ABU and/or BDU versions, which we have become accustomed to, we know if it was someone within CAP that made the recommendation, or if it was a USAF or DOD change that was directed.

On this one, I'm not following your interest. Why does it matter who wants the changes? At the end of the day, we get what we get.

Thank you for the link, missed this somehow.

So, CAPHQ says it did its job and submitted the request to the USAF and the Pentagon, and we are awaiting their response for APPROVAL, DENIAL, or further questions/concerns. I appreciate her transparency in stating this on a format that everyone in CAP can see and hear.

So, we hurry up and wait. Somethings, be it Military or CAP, never change.

The only thing I would like to see going forward is the proposal they sent to the USAF and DOD, just to understand what CAP leadership thought was the best idea for the CAP version of the OCP uniform. What I'm getting at is:

Full Color vs Subdued Tapes, Ranks, Badges, Patches
Coyote vs Black boots
Coyote vs Black T-shirts
AUX Identifier Patch
Breast Pocket Patches vs no Breast Pocket Patches
"CAP" on Rank Patch vs Just Rank on Patch
etc.

So, if something changes from the ABU and/or BDU versions, which we have become accustomed to, we know if it was someone within CAP that made the recommendation, or if it was a USAF or DOD change that was directed.

Has anyone heard anything further on OCPs? Seems crazy that we are still in ABUs at this point. I'm getting retiring/discharging Soldiers giving me their service-able OCPS to donate to CAP. So the "shortage" seems to be over.

The "shortage" was over five years ago.

Quote from: PHall on May 13, 2025, 07:29:36 PMHow tall is your daughter? The "female" boards are about 20% smaller then the "normal" ones. If she's 5'-4" or taller the "normal" one's should work.

She is 5'6"

The "male" boards should work then. But borrow a pair from your squadron and see how they look on her service dress jacket. I don't think there will be any problems.
